About us
Towns without Hunger Germany is a support association registered in the register of associations of the Berlin-Charlottenburg District Court in 2015, which primarily serves the financial and non-material support of the Brazilian organization Cidades sem fome (towns without hunger).
Cidades sem fome is a non-governmental organization (NGO) that sets up sustainable agricultural projects in urban and rural areas on the basis of ecological agriculture. The aim of the São Paulo-based organization is to enable people in precarious life situations to generate their own income by participating in the project and to improve the nutritional situation of adults and children.
Community gardens, school gardens and greenhouses have been created on unused public and private areas within socially disadvantaged areas in order to bring the needy into work and to improve the nutritional situation of children and adults.
The smallholder project in Rio Grande do Sul, which Cidades sem fome started in 2009 as its fourth project, is intended to enable farmers to abandon monoculture planting and to support them in converting to organic farming.
Joint mission of the support association Towns without Hunger Germany and the organization Cidades sem fome in Brazil:
The aim of Cidades sem fome is to create jobs, income and food security in order to promote the social inclusion of marginalized groups. Cidades sem fome helps people to help themselves. The development association Towns without Hunger Germany, based in Berlin, pursues exclusively and directly charitable purposes and is entitled to issue donation receipts.
The pillars of the work of Towns without Hunger Germany.
Funding: The support association Towns without Hunger Germany supports the work of the organization Cidades sem fome in Brazil. The funds raised are forwarded directly to the organization Cidades sem fome Brazil, minus any advertising and administrative costs incurred. Accordingly, Towns without Hunger Germany looks for individuals, companies and organizations who identify with the work of Cidades sem fome Brazil to help them to support Cidades sem fome Brazil.
Support: The non-material support of the organization is also included in the statutes of Towns without Hunger Germany. This consists mainly of press and public relations work. To fulfil these and other tasks, Towns without Hunger Germany looks for individuals, companies and organizations from different fields who are willing to contribute their know-how and expertise free of charge to Towns without Hunger Germany, thus supporting Cidades sem fome Brazil.
• Networking: Towns without Hunger is convinced that more can be achieved through cooperation - networking - than through the activities of individuals. The interaction of different players - across national borders and continents - can help solve specific problems. So Towns without Hunger is constantly on the lookout for individuals, companies, organizations and scientific institutions worldwide with a connection to the following topics: conventional agriculture, ecological agriculture, urban agriculture, greenhouse construction, nutrition, water, environmental protection, urban and regional planning, Brazil, programs to help people help themselves and sustainability.
Esther Beuth-Heyer is the chairwoman of the board and press spokeswoman for Towns without Hunger Germany.
On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of urban agriculture. Further support options:
For the office in São Paulo, Brazil, we are looking for interns for a period of three months with the option of an extension. Unfortunately, the situation of the NGO does not currently allow any remuneration.
