About us
Integrated Villages (formerly CIIRD) is a registered not for profit community-based organization in Uganda. Founded in 2011 and registered in 2014. We are a local CBO working with people whose livelihoods are threatened by socio-economic issues and the impacts of climate change by equipping them with knowledge, skills and tools to tackle environmental challenges and poverty using locally available resources.
Mission
Our mission is to give families life opportunities to live free from poverty and disease.
Vision
We envision communities with empowered families living in a productive and peaceful environment.
Our goals
With the help of local and international supporters and volunteers, we;
• Address poverty through micro enterprises and life skills development among women, youth and men in villages we work with.
• Make villages more resilient and able to address environmental challenges in their communities using agro-ecologically efficient practices.
• Reduce food insecurity and chronic malnutrition among farmer families.
• Ensure improved access to clean and safe water for families to end water related illnesses especially diarrhea.
Our projects are gender inclusive, participatory and community driven as local people are involved in every step and decision making of development projects in their communities.
What we do
Our community driven programs empower people from low-income families in rural areas to achieve economic independence, food security & nutrition and access to affordable renewable energy options.
• Sustainable Agriculture: We promote sustainable farming among communities that we work with. Farmers are trained in improved crop and animal husbandry practices that enhance farm productivity and incomes. Farmers are learning how to manage soil fertility, conserve water and increase yields in both food crops and cash crops. High value crops like coffee are also promoted for income generation
• Women Empowerment: Many women in villages especially single mothers and those who have no access to land are very vulnerable in society. We are supporting women to start community savings groups, small businesses that require little capital and equipping them with soft skills like crafts making and others
• Environment Conservation: We work with farmer communities to equip them with knowledge and tools to adapt to climate change and also mitigate the impacts of climate change in their communities. This is done through increasing tree cover, use of renewable energy like solar, energy saving stoves among others.
