About us

Mother Charitable Foundation (MCF) was established in 2011 and inspired by the mission of St. Mother Theresa of Calcutta from the very beginning for the purpose of serving the disadvantaged individuals in Sri Lanka with the vision of serve through love.
MCF is a registered nonprofit non-government organization under the Ministry of Social services as a non-governmental organization and granted the status of voluntary social service organization at the National Council for persons with disabilities.
MCF always strives to bring positive changes to the disadvantaged lives through the service and functions under the overall directions of its dedicated board of directors. The service materialize the five major principles of love, care, feeding, protection and education of the disadvantaged individuals and operates out of a single office in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
Nevertheless the service spreads from rural village level to national level reaching the lives of many people in need; namely, children and adults with special needs, elders, persons living with terminal illnesses like cancer/ HIV or any other disease and anyone isolated and banished from the society, irrespective of gender, race and religion.

The five major principles:
• Love: MCF believes in love and all our projects are based on love. An action filled with love changes everything, from sadness to happiness, fear to confidence, anger to compassion, weakness to strength, and discrimination to equality humanity. We serve the needy communities with love. We give them love which they aren’t receiving from their communities.
• Care: In a world where abandoning is common, we stretch our hands because we believe Caring and being cared is a blessing in one’s life. We care for the community who do not receive it but is in need of it. We care for their physical, psychological and emotional needs without any discrimination.
• Protection: We stand to protect and guide the physical, emotional, psychological wellbeing of everyone, especially the disadvantaged communities in Sri Lanka. We protect their rights and provide them a secure environment and focus to on educating the rest of the society, to make a better society.
• Feeding: Satisfying both the physical and the psychological needs, is the source to bring out a fruitful life. We stand to provide them the strength, and enhance their capabilities by addressing the physical needs and also by fulfilling their emotional and psychological needs.
• Education: MCF believes in the right of education for everyone. One of our services is to educate the community to see the world in a new perspective through learning. Expanding the access to education is one of our primary concerns.

Projects
• Education Projects:
Pathum Uyana is one of the major education projects in MCF and it is a center for education & skill development for children & adults with special needs.
Apart from Pathum Uyana, MCF assists education centers for children with special needs located in Sri Lanka and take maximum efforts to fulfill the educational requirements of them.
• Health Projects
Maternity Care: MCF concerns on the health & comfort of the expecting mothers while ensuring the protection of the new borns. Additionally, MCF encourage adoption over abortion.
HIV/AIDS: Brothers & sisters living with HIV/AIDS is one of the key groups of disadvantaged individuals in Sri Lanka and the social stigma & discrimination has caused them to deny the access for basic human rights. MCF is always passionate on serving them & provides assistance to have a relief from their daily struggles.
• Food: MCF always look for ways to reduce hunger of the world and take maximum efforts to feed the individuals who got disadvantaged due to disabilities, terminal illnesses, poverty and social issues.
• Community Development Projects
Emergency Relief & Rehabilitation: An emergency situation can create a difficult condition for everyone and it get worse at disadvantaged individuals. Hence, MCF seeks for ways to support them at emergencies and plans for rehabilitation procedures to overcome the setbacks.
Livelyhood Assistance: MCF facilitates livelyhood assistance for adults with disabilities, and umemployed mothers of the children with disabilities to support them to overcome their financial burdens
• Empowement Projects: Empowerment is the key element for the success of a persons‘ life and it applies for the persons with disabilities & their families. MCF commits to bring positivity & good attitudes towards the families of the persons with special needs and succeed in their lives.
• Home Of Love: Our new project is to build a home for the poor and needy in Sri Lanka who are not welcome under any roof. They are neglected, discriminated and rejected by the society. We hope to build a home where they can live in with respect and without any discrimination due to their sicknesses or social differences or issues.
