About us
Albertine Watchdog is a laboratory of free thinkers, avenue to free speech, human rights and democracy, environmental advocacy and community mobilization.
We are an activist group in Uganda defending the human rights of indigenous people and also protecting the environment and land rights.
Mission
The mission of Albertine Watchdog is to advance human rights and conserve the natural environment.
Our work
• We also offer digital and physical security support for human rights defenders, environmental activists, and media organizations among others.
• We work at grassroots level to offer solutions, appropriate technical support, holistic security and protection to at -risk medium and and small groups environmental human rights defenders working in remote but violent or repressive environments.
• We offer security strategies for voiceless and vulnerable communities.
• We are composed of lawyers, researchers, security specialisets, bloggers,p hotographers, activists and communications specialists working with at- risk nvironmental human rights defenders and local medium and small organisations in Uganda, South Sudan ,Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Cameroon and Tanzania to protect human rights and defend at risk groups. We support these individuals and groups for them to be able to work safely as they try to bring about social and economic justice and human rights for all.
Beginning in early 2020, the Albertine Watchdog will engage in a robust process to implement two programs Environment and Human rights.
In 2020 – 2025, the Albertine Watchdog environment program will focus on;
Biodiversity Conservation
• Application of modern technology and 21st Century innovative solutions that create new solutions to environmental challenges.
• Digital and physical security support to individuals and organisations fighting the negative impacts of corporate environmental harms related to extractive, hydropower dam, large scale agribusiness mainly through media, technology, activism, and grassroots advocacy initiatives.
• Disseminating environmental information related to biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.
The Albertine Watchdog human rights program will focus on;
Human Rights Defenders
• Providing capacity-building support to human rights defenders and organization at risk in Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, and Somalia to enable activists and journalists under threat in sub-Sahara Africa to continue their important advocacy to advance human rights, land rights, environmental rights, and indigenous people’s rights.
• Disseminating human rights information related to human rights defenders protection, indigenous people’s rights, land rights, political participation, civil rights and technology for human rights
• To achieve this mission, the Albert Watchdog will also continue with the mobilization of funding and technical support, capacity building for staff and volunteers to enable the organization to deliver its mandate of environmental protection and human rights defenders support.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
