About us

The Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS) is in a small village in the foothills of the Himalayas. The Purkal Youth Development Society is a registered charity, founded in 1998, dedicated to enhancing the lives of disadvantaged rural youth through mentoring and education and empowering women through skill development.

Our aim is to empower this rural community through access to quality education, health services, skill development and employment, whilst at the same time preserving the beautiful Himalayan environment, local cultural traditions and the sanction of the community.

We are striving to nurture Indian citizens with strong values, a sense of responsibility for their peers and an open-mindedness on which the fabric of this multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-religious country depends. We want to create catalysts who will uplift this often forgotten and dejected community and give them the skills and knowledge to act as change agents for their community.

PYDS has 4 main programmes which work together to empower and educate:
• Education for ages 6-18 years old through Yuva Shakti (Youth Power)
• Support for young adults and PYDS graduates through On To Life
• Early childhood education and care through Shishu Shakti (Child Power)
• Local village improvement through Community Development (health and sanitation)

G.K.Swamy is the Founder of the Purkal Youth Development Society (PYDS).

For other net participants we can offer overnight facilities. Also we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of education policy. We are constantly looking for support from other funding organizations and corporates as we sustain our work entirely on charity.
