About us
ANOPA is an acronym for Agoro Ne Obra PA, which in the local language Twi means "Play for a better life". The project was launched in Cape Coast in 2010 based on a cooperation between the Sports Youth NRW, Germany and Ghana.
ANOPA is an international sports project based in Cape Coast, Ghana. The NGO was founded in 2010 and uses sports, such as swimming, football and basketball, as an instrument for individual development, promotion of gender equity, peace building and other important soft and social skills for kids in the Central Region of Ghana.
Our vision
“To use sports as an instrument for individual development, promotion of gender equity, peace building and conflict resolution, communication as well as social mobilization.“
Our mission
ANOPA wants to improve the life conditions of children and adolescents in the region of Cape Coast with the aid of sports. Students and young people should be strengthened through sports and education programs in developing their personality and give them the opportunity to participate. In addition to the development of qualified school and club sports, are the creation of networks and structures in the center of sport.
• "More school based sports programs, which are not focused on performance or competition"
• "Animation for voluntary work in the field of sports"
• "Fighting delinquency"
• "Providing the opportunity for children to participate in extracurricular activities"
• "Scouting and supporting talents"
Programs:
• Sports for development: ANOPA's leading goals are “one world” / “youth for youth”, because we are living in the same world and are willing to connect to each other, to support others around the globe. Especially for the young people who are coming together and trying to exchange their different backgrounds. ANOPA builds on the enthusiasm of young people for sports and encourages them to take a serious look at socially relevant issues. It equally aims at the development of structures and networks within the sport community in the country particularly in the Central Region/Cape Coast. ANOPA is active in the sport disciplines: Swimming; Soccer; Basketball; Volleyball; Handball and we are currently offering collaborations to Surfing, Wrestling and Taekwondo programs.
• Life Skill Training: Our education sessions are mainly facilitated by our German Volunteers with a standard curriculum. Participation schools are selected based on interest and demand and schools are mainly in the Junior High School category. The courses are mainly HIV/AIDS prevention, Goal Setting, and Self Defense particularly for girls. The other education program is targeted at the kindergarten and Primary levels where pupils are made to acknowledge their environment and keep it safe and clean. At this level, German Songs and Poetry are normally taught intermittently to help the kids appreciate the need for intercultural fluency.
• Environmental project: As a sport for development NGO, ANOPA Project is also concerned about the environment and the general sanitation of the communities in which we live and operate. As part of our plans to curb the environmental canker of improper waste management, we have come up with the NothinLeavesEarth initiative where we educate students and the general public on the need for environmental sustainability. We do this by introducing to them the problem at hand, the causes, effects and some solutions to this big problem through MadLam Initativ and Kofi Nudlemann Initiative.
