About us
Mother of Good Counsel Initiative (MOGCI) is a registered Non-Governmental and Not-for-Profit Organization committed to reducing inequalities among genders through training, mentoring and inspiring grassroots women and girls on life, vocational, entrepreneurial and leadership skills which empower them with the knowledge and courage necessary to break free from the chains of limiting belief patterns and societal/religious barriers that have traditionally kept women/girls suppressed and unable to see their true potentials in the Niger Delta Region of the Ccuntry.
MOGCI envisions an equitable society in which the rights, capacities and interest of women are integrated in the socio-economic planning and development of the country.
Our mission is to enhance the status of women in the country through trainings, capacity building and economic empowerment to attain equality, development and peace.
Objectives
• To challenge the systemic inequalities women face, advance their rights as bona-fide citizens and fight against exploitation and injustices against girl /women.
• To undertake, generate and promote primary and applied research.
• To provide advisory and consultancy services on gender issues.
• To provide social, educational and economic empowerment to women and girls by offering cutting edge trainings and workshops.
• To provide temporary help/shelter/facilities for abused/distressed girls and young women, including battered women and also provide psychosocial and other forms of support.
• To sensitize the women and girl on gender sensitive issues such sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, child marriage, drug abuse, sexual harassment, and violence against women etc that are barriers to their education.
What we do:
• Light the spark campaign: The campaign emphasizes on moral and positive values as important step towards achieving peace, security and development.
• Back to School Campaign: This project aims to resolve the issues of school drop outs among girls and supports second chance education for teenage mothers who dropped out of school because of pregnancy. We support educational programmes to promote gender equality and women’s rights, run extra mural classes at the Centre, and enroll out of school girls back to school. We run some scholarship programmes.
• My Health My Pride Campaign: It targets elimination of sexually transmitted diseases, protection against unwanted pregnancies, and advocacies to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS and medical care for those who are already HIV positive.
• Learn a Skill Campaign: MOGCI runs myriad of programmes to provide trainings, soft loans and practical skills to empower women and girls economically. We run skills acquisition program at the Mater Dei Girls Centre on Fashion Designs, Hair making, Information and Computer Technology (ITC) and Catering.
• She can Lead' Campaign: Our programmes on leadership and participation provide training for women political candidates to help build their skills, as well as voter and civic education and sensitization campaigns on gender equality.
• Girls for Peace Campaign
• Community Sensitization: Campaign on reduction the incidences of teenage pregnancy
• 16 Days of Activism: This is a yearly program that highlights the issue of Gender based violence, the challenges, emerging issues and remedies. I
• Rally: World Human Rights Day. This is a global Campaign that calls for the protection of human rights.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
