About us
The Congo Community Development Organisation, G.O.E.K for short, was founded in 2003. Its aim is to provide development aid in rural areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo, on a non-profit basis. This aim is realised in particular through material and ideological support for projects to improve living standards in rural areas, support for agricultural production by the introduction of new techniques and a positive development of social structures among the rural population.
G.O.E.K. is registered as a non profit organisation (NGO) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The activities of the NGO are very much welcomed by the local people. This acceptance is shown by, for example, the steadily increasing number of of members in the Congo who organise and control our activities on the ground.
In the interests of community development, i.e. cooperation with local people, G.O.E.K has focussed its work on Zamba, a small town in the Kivulu sector in Lower Congo. The project has been developed and decided upon by regular and personal contact between the local people and our members in Germany.
G.O.E.K. supports two projects in Zamba.
• Health: the primary aim is to safeguard health care provision, so that the sickness and death rates are reduced considerably. A First Aid Centre is planned for Zamba, which will have a catchment area with a radius of about 15 km, in order to be able to provide emergency treatment for minor illnesses or injuries. G.O.E.K has obtained a 1200m² plot of land on which to build the First Aid Centre. The building will eventually have 300qm² of land at its disposal. In order to keep costs down, the preparation of the site will be carried out by local volunteers. Water will be supplied by building a well, electricity will be solar. The facility will have everything it needs, from office furniture to medical apparatus.
• Agriculture: to improve the quantity and quality of agriculture in the region, the people desperately need agricultural machinery, to make production efficient. Productivity must be considerably increased. The harvest of local products must be sufficient to feed the people. A collective has been founded to market surpluses centrally, so that the village can feed itself. The sale of surpluses gives the collective the possibility of providing further inhabitants with tools.
Yenge Matomina is the founder and president of G.O.E.K.
