About us
Disability and Rehabilitation Association of Ghana (DARAGH), a non profit organisation based in Accra, that seeks to promote and enhance the lives of persons with disabilities through comprehensive rehabilitation services.
Vision
That through partner Organizations and Professional persons in and outside Ghana, members of DARAGH will be equipped with professional skills that meet set standards for the comprehensive rehabilitation services for Persons with Disabilities and also to make Persons with Disabilities make maximum use of available local resources and enjoy equal Rights and Opportunities as their non-disabled counterparts.
Mission
To empower all persons with disabilities through capacity building and training and promoting their Rights and Social Inclusion by facilitating their access to comprehensive rehabilitation services, quality health care services, education, and other social services
Objectives
• To advocate for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
• To empower and enhance the lives of persons with disabilities through Capacity Building and Training.
• To raise awareness of the pathways to disability and its preventive measures.
• To advocate for the inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities in all social
activities.
• To create a strong network team with partner organizations for skills development and job placement for persons with disabilities.
• To foster access to primary education for persons with disabilities.
Activities:
• Rehabilitation: Providing rehabilitation services for persons with disabilities.
• Research: Conducting qualitative and quantitative research to change policies and improve health of persons with disabilities.
• Capacity Building and Training: Training service providers (parents, teachers, health workers etc.) for persons with disabilities on relevant skills.
• Health Promotion Services: Persons with disabilities and their families are reached by the same health promotion messages as are members of the general community to improve their health.
• Donation Exercise: Supporting persons with disabilities through donations.
• Livelihood Training: Providing livelihood training for persons with disabilities based on their training needs assessment.
• Advocacy: Advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities to be promoted, protected and respected by the community
Projects:
• Daragro project
• Building Toilet Facility in Akwama Rural Community: The project aims to solve the problem of Onchocerciasis (river blindness) in the rural area of Akwaman in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The major causes of this Onchocerciasis in the rural area is due to open defecation in the water bodies within the village. A qualitative study conducted revealed that the root cause of this problem is due to open defecation. Two toilet facilities with 4 seater will be built to curb the problem and improve the health of the people within the rural area.
