About us
Othakarhaka (passing on the kindness) Charity Foundation is a registered non-profit making organization under the Trustee Incorporation Act. OTK was founded by Ida Puliwa in 2012 as merely a charity group in response to the kindness she received from a retired Virginia based professor, Dr. Marquita Hill, who helped her with scholarship to study in college in Malawi.
The organisation was officially registered as an organization in 2013 with government of Malawi through the registrar general.Othakarhaka is a volunteer-based organization that currently has active volunteer base of over 6600 people in the area of senior Chiefs Nkanda, Juma and Mabuka covering an estimated population of 73,000 people.
Our mandate is to provide life changing programs to the needy and most vulnerable people in the communities.
Our mission is to uplift the living standards of the most vulnerable and marginalized members of our community such as the girls, elderly, orphans, extremely poor women, and patients with incurable diseases such as HIV/Aids, cancer among others (palliative care).
Our vision is to see a Malawian society where every citizen, regardless of their social economic status, enjoying the basic amenities of life.
Our impact
Othakarhaka Foundation is working with hundreds of volunteers to strengthen healthcare, education, agriculture systems and empower various members of the communities through various initiatives.
What we do
• Public Health: Within our Public Health Initiatives, Othakarhaka Foundation is committed to enhancing the well-being of underserved communities. Our comprehensive efforts aim to address pressing healthcare challenges and provide critical support, for example Palliative Care and Home-Based Assistance, Cervical Cancer Screening.
• Education Initiatives: Othakarhaka Foundation is dedicated to uplifting communities through the power of knowledge with our Educational Initiatives. Our comprehensive efforts aim to overcome educational barriers and provide vital support, fostering brighter futures for all through Othakarhaka Community Library, Community Hotspots for Education, Secondary School and Tertiary Scholarships, Supporting Primary School Orphans
• Girls & Women Empowerment: At Othakarhaka Foundation, our primary goal under our Girl and Women Empowerment Programs is to enrich the lives of girls and young women, empowering them to overcome the challenges that impact their destinies through Girls' Art Empowerment Camp, Girls Educational Sponsorship, Empowering Teen Mothers through Fashion Design, Menstrual hygiene initiative, Gender-Based Violence Awareness Initiatives
• Sustainable Agriculture & Agroforestry
• Youth Empowerment: At Othakarhaka Foundation, we are committed to nurturing the potential of our youth through our Youth Empowerment Initiatives. Our holistic approach focuses on developing their skills and talents, empowering them to become confident and capable leaders, and shaping a brighter future for themselves and their communities through 4H/Youth Empowerment, Girls' Soccer Project
