About us

Missing Children South Africa (MCSA), established in 2007, is a Non-Profit and Public Benefit Organisation that assists the South African Police Service (SAPS) when a person goes missing in South Africa, for any reason whatsoever.
MCSA exists to be reactive and to create awareness when a missing persons case is reported. The fact that children go missing each year is a real and present danger, and as an organisation, we feel it is necessary to ensure that the citizens of South Africa are aware of this threat to the safety of all our children.

Our Mission
To assist families and the South African Police Service with all reported missing persons cases.

Our Vision
To make South Africa a safer place for all our children.

What We Do
• Emergency Response: MCSA’s first tier is an emergency response service. We have a national helpline for incident reports and callers are advised on which immediate steps to take in logging the incident officially with SAPS so as to ensure efficient and timeous action.
• Working with SAPS: We also liaise with the investigating officers on the case so as to ensure a continuous flow of information between the parents and authorities, often advising the officers on duty as to the correct steps to take.
• Create Awareness: Secondly, by activating a vast national social and media network we distribute flyers of missing persons, creating mass awareness of the individual and maximising the chances of the person being recovered. Our network provides an incredibly efficient, instant mass distribution of flyers, within moments of an incident.
• Ongoing Support: Since prevention is the most effective way to keep our children safe, we strive to educate both parents, guardians and children on the dangers of abduction, human trafficking and kidnapping by visiting schools and making informational flyers and leaflets available.

Our website www.missingchildren.org.za acts as an emergency report facility as well as being platform for informational and educational material with regards to Child Safety.

Bianca van Awegen is the National Coordinator and Criminologist of Missing Children South Africa (MCSA).

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
