About us
EMLAAK (Ethno-medical Latin American Study Group), founded in 2006 and based in Vienna, is a meeting point for ethno-medical exchange and cultural contact, not only for scientists from various disciplines (medical anthropology, medicine, ethno-medicine, medical ethnology, ethno-botany, psychology etc.) but also for interested non-scientists and representatives of various Latin American medical systems.
Regular meetings provide a platform for getting-to-know-you sessions and for professional interchange between scientists, and lectures provide a bridging point between scientists and a broader, non-scientific public.
At the moment, our regional focus is on Latin America, but with a growing membership we might broaden our remit to other areas. The majority of our lecturers come from the area of cultural and social anthropology, but also represented are musicology, botany and psychology.
As well as lectures, we organise events of various kinds, such as congresses, festivals or interchange with traditional healers. Details can be found on our homepage under "Aktuelles" or "Archiv".
Evelyne Puchegger-Ebner is a founder member and president of EMLAAK.
On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
