About us
Youth Empowered Action (YEA) Camp is a social justice leadership program that helps aspiring activists make a bigger difference on the causes they care about.
Founded in 2009, YEA Camp is week-long sleep-away camp with sessions in beautiful locations in CA, OR, and NY. At YEA Camp, campers choose an issue of importance to them (for example, many campers focus on racism and police brutality, climate change, LGBTQ+ equality, poverty, gun violence, animal cruelty, reproductive rights ....
and at camp they build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue once they get home.
At YEA Camp, we help you develop:
• Knowledge - To understand the problems you are concerned about and solutions that have worked to address them
• Skills - From campaign planning to fundraising to running an amazing school club, we'll train you to be even more effective
• Confidence - To challenge limiting beliefs you have that might be holding you back (We all have them!)
• Community - To connect you with peers, advisors, and organizations to help you and so you know you're not alone
YEA Camp is not about any one topic or social justice issue. Each camper chooses what we call their Issue of Importance (IOI) to focus their activism on, with a recognition that issues are interconnected. Most people would consider our values to be “progressive,” and we won’t argue, but we think they are even more basic than that:
• All people should have their basic rights and autonomy respected.
• Our environment must be protected.
• Other species have a right to share this planet and to live free from harm by humans.
Since 2009, we've helped thousands of up-and-coming changemakers like you to make a bigger impact on these causes and more. They've done amazing things, like
• change their school's policies, lunch, and even its name!
• volunteer, intern + work to elect great candidates
• organize protests, walk-outs + voter registration drives
• launch school clubs to raise awareness + support
• raise thousands of dollars for amazing causes
• volunteer on political campaigns
• publish articles and videos about causes they believe in
• inspire friends and family to get active on their cause
• so much more that they say wouldn't have happened without their experience at YEA Camp.
