About us

Better World Organization for Community Development (BWOCD), founded in 2017, is a humanitarian, non-governmental organization (NGO), A group of motivated young women founded the organization to work to empower and protect women, youth, and adolescents to improve the psychosocial and economic situation of people, and to advocate for social cohesion and peace in the community.

Our Vision
A world where women, girls, and youth, have their rights protected, are free from violence and discrimination, and can lead independent and empowered lives within a harmonious society.

Our Mission
Our mission is to protect the rights of women, girls, and youth, ensuring their independence, empowerment, and freedom from violence and discrimination. We strive to create a community that embraces acceptance and respect, regardless of religious, or ethnical differences.

Areas of work
• Violence against Women and Girls´ Prevention and Response: Unleashing the power within, we create safe spaces for women and girls to express themselves fully. Our work is centered on enabling them to explore their potential and become active, positive contributors to their families and communities.
• Mental Health and Psychosocial Support: We are implementing community-based mental health and psychosocial support programs to address these challenges. Our activities are specifically designed to enhance the psychosocial well-being of the most vulnerable communities we work with, focusing on building resilience and instilling hope for a better future. We offer a range of structured psychosocial support (PSS) programs that have been carefully developed and tailored to the specific context of Iraq. These programs are designed by various specialized actors and cover areas such as youth resilience, child resilience, little friends, adolescent girl’s toolkit, parenting skills, parents without violence, and women’s empowerment through speaking out. In addition to these structured activities, we also provide non-structured activities aimed at promoting well-being and enjoyment. These activities encompass sports, art, storytelling, reading clubs, and group gatherings that provide entertainment and fun for the participants.
• Skills development and Economic Empowerment: Initially, we focus on equipping women and youth with essential life skills, fostering effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities to empower them on their respective journeys. Additionally, we recognize the significance of literacy and language courses, which are in high demand among women and youth, addressing their specific needs. Moreover, we offer vocational training programs encompassing areas such as business management and marketing, equipping women and youth with the necessary skills to embark on their path to economic independence by establishing their enterprises.
• Social Cohesion and Peace Building: At Better World organization, we are committed to promoting social cohesion and peacebuilding. We firmly believe in harnessing the potential of youth as catalysts for sustainable peace. Through our interventions, we establish platforms for interaction and dialogue among individuals from diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds, fostering a sense of unity and cohesion. Moreover, we actively support and empower youth to spearhead peacebuilding initiatives within their communities, advocating for peace and countering extremism. To further enhance our efforts, we utilize the powerful mediums of sports and arts as effective tools for peace education among adolescents. By engaging youth in these activities, we aim to instill values of tolerance, understanding, and peaceful coexistence, paving the way for a harmonious society.
• Climate Change and Technology: On one hand, we prioritize raising awareness among targeted communities about climate change. We aim to educate and inform individuals about the causes, impacts, and potential solutions related to climate change. By enhancing their understanding, we empower them to actively contribute towards mitigating its effects. On the other hand, we recognize the importance of equipping youth with the necessary technological skills.
• Transforming Lives: Fulfilling Basic Needs for Lasting Impact: ur approach consists of two initiatives and projects. The first approach involves a referral system, where we establish connections between our beneficiaries and other service providers who can address their specific needs. Through this collaborative network, we strive to maximize support for those we serve. The second approach entails direct aid provision, where we supply essential non-food items directly to individuals and communities in need. By delivering these items through targeted interventions, we aim to alleviate immediate hardships and enhance the well-being of those affected. At BWO, we are dedicated to employing a comprehensive and strategic approach to humanitarian aid, ensuring that the basic needs of vulnerable populations are met while enabling their progress towards long-term stability and self-reliance.
