About us
Transformers Organisation is a community grass-root organisation committed to transforming lives and improving living conditions in this underprivileged community in Mathare slums and its environments.
Our mission
Through education and vocational training, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and create equal job opportunities for residents
Our principles
• Promote economic empowerment: We equip vulnerable jobseekers with the skills and resources to improve their livelihoods. We take pride in helping our students secure wages that support their children's education, provide for their basic needs, and meet financial obligations.
• Ensure decent work standards: We prioritize professionalism and high-quality craftsmanship, empowering our workforce to excel in their chosen fields. Additionally, we are committed to raising awareness of basic worker rights, providing educational sessions to advocate for fair treatment and safe working conditions.
• Advocate for life-long learning: We strongly advocate for lifelong learning among our adult students who have made the courageous decision to embark on a transformative journey of learning from scratch. We believe that education knows no age limits, and we provide a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals to acquire new knowledge, skills, and expertise.
• Implement actions to tackle extreme poverty: We provide a safe and supportive learning environment equipped with basic amenities, ensuring that our students have access to the resources they need to thrive (including nutritious meals in some occasions). We create an atmosphere where students can fully concentrate on their studies and pursue their educational aspirations without the financial strain of training fees.
• Educate on healthy behaviors: We understand the significance of holistic development, including physical and mental well-being. We educate the community on healthy behavior, emphasizing the importance of hygiene, menstrual health, and sexual education. By addressing issues such as period poverty and providing free sanitary pads, we contribute to raising awareness and empowering women in their daily lives.
Our initiatives include:
• Carpentry workshops to equip women and youth with practical skills.
• Women’s saving schemes and financial literacy training to enhance economic independence.
• Coding programs to foster digital skills for the future.
• Tailoring workshops to promote entrepreneurial opportunities.
• Educational support to uplift our community through learning.
We recently received a generous donation of two acres of land in Homabay village, a space we envision transforming into a Women Empowerment Center. This center will serve as a hub for skill development, economic empowerment, and leadership training, aiming to make women catalysts of change in their communities.
Additionally, we conduct short courses on financial literacy, mental health, entrepreneurship, and other essential topics to reach a broader audience.
