About us
Ndekeleni Development Foundation (NDF) is a grassroots, community-driven non-governmental organization founded in 2002 by a group of ten women and formally registered with the Registrar of Societies in 2003. Headquartered in Mazabuka, Southern Province, NDF has spent over two decades working alongside a population of approximately 300,000 residents to improve livelihoods, uphold human rights, and strengthen social cohesion. The organization's programming addresses some of Southern Province's most pressing challenges — HIV/AIDS, poverty, gender inequality, child protection, and youth unemployment — through approaches that are rooted in, and owned by, the communities it serves.

A society where all people live with dignity — enjoying an improved quality of life, free from the burdens of HIV/AIDS, poverty, and social injustice.
Mission
To empower women, youth, and vulnerable populations through community-based initiatives, income-generating activities, health services, and advocacy for social justice, gender equality, and human rights.
What we do:
NDF delivers an integrated portfolio of community programmes targeting women and girls, orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs), youth, and people living with HIV/AIDS. Core areas of work include:
• Child Protection & OVC Support — establishing and strengthening child protection committees, and linking vulnerable children to education, health, and psychosocial services.
• HIV/AIDS Prevention, Care & Support — testing and counselling, palliative care, and economic empowerment for people living with HIV/AIDS and orphans.
• Women & Girls' Empowerment / GBV Prevention — gender sensitization, support groups, community dialogues, and referral systems.
• Income-Generating Activities & Livelihoods — skills training (poultry, gardening, tailoring, mobile money), starter kits, cooperatives, and savings groups.
• Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) — boreholes, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education in schools and communities.
• Community Sensitization & Civic Engagement — radio programmes, drama, and community dialogues on governance, health, and human rights.
• Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability — climate-smart agriculture and community-led renewable energy and green livelihood initiatives.
Our impact:
• Supported over 800 orphans and vulnerable children with access to education, health, and psychosocial services.
• Reached thousands of community members through HIV counselling and testing campaigns.
• Enabled income-generating activities that have raised household incomes and strengthened food security for participating families.
• Delivered gender-based violence prevention and women's empowerment programmes across multiple communities.
• Strengthened child protection systems through school- and community-based structures.
• Implemented WASH infrastructure (boreholes and sanitation facilities) improving access to clean water and reducing disease risk.
• Programming aligned with national priorities under SPA III — Democracy & Human Rights, Climate Justice & Just Transition, and Humanitarian Action & Resilience.
