What we do
• Braille Library: The Trust maintains a Braille Library, one of its kind in Mysore. The library provides a reading room facility and is actively involved in the transcription of books into Braille formats. There are 5 Braille typewriters that are used by the team to convert books into Braille format.
• Braille Transcription Center: The Centre started in 2010 is engaged in transcription work of English and Kanada books into Braille for the benefit of visually impaired students. The center has the services of about 10 volunteers who function as readers of the books while 5 visually impaired students, specially trained in transcription, perform the task of drafting the text in Braille.
• Computer Training: The Computer Training Center provides tutorial-training services to visually impaired students. On completion of the training, students will be able to use common computer-processing applications and will be able to read electronic text on screen (with the use of special software), download information from the Internet for reading or printing, browse online newspapers, do online research and continuously upgrade their skills. The training is offered free of cost by the Trust
• Education: The purpose of these programs is to empower people with visual disabilities in order to give them a level playing field in the employment market. Our programs cover the following areas: Computer training; Language skills training; Profession related training
• Sports & Culture: The Divya Jyothi Charitable trust promotes sports for the visually and physically disabled to instill awareness and also stress the importance of physical fitness. Sports and culture encourage team spirit and enhance the confidence of students, thereby opening a window to advance themselves. Chess, sports and athletics such as table tennis, long jump, high jump, running, swimming, weight lifting etc.
• Hostel Facilities: The Trust runs a humble hostel facility that can house up to 10 people. The facility includes stay and all meals and is completely free of cost. We also run a free ´pick-up and drop´ service in an effort to make commuting an easy ordeal for the visually impaired.
