About us

Hope for Teenage Mothers (HTM), established in 2005, is a growing humanitarian organization aimed at providing teenage mothers and their children, what we believe is their basic human right: livelihood, education and support. The organization fulfils its aims by pooling resources from well wishers and voluntary skills of professionals globally.

Our Vision
Give hope to a girl child who is helpless and vulnerable but has huge untapped potential and unexploited talent.

Mission Statement
Work with stakeholders, partners, well wishes, donors and the government of Kenya to seek to improve the quality of life for stigmatized and marginalized teenage mothers, their children, families and communities through capacity building, counseling, nutritional support, non-formal training, legal representation and human rights upholding.

The organizations objective is to provide:
• Empowerment through sustainable skills of basic literacy and vocational training.
• Provide entrepreneurship training and micro finance
• Adolescent behavior support and mentorship
• Build a centre of excellence that transforms ordinary schools into institutions that respect physical, academic and social dimensions of teenage mothers.

Activities:
• Non-Formal Education: (Accelerated learning): HTM has partnered with the Ministry of Education to offer accelerated learning to the most vulnerable teenage mothers. This enables the mother to learn and take care of the child at the same time.
• Vocational training and Life Skills training: We offer life skills training to the teenage mothers. During these lessons the teen mums learn practical skills in various areas that involve art and innovativeness. These include beading, painting, making mats, sewing knitting, hairdressing and cookery. Using these skills the girls are able to make some sales and therefore improving their livelihoods and that of their children.
• Entrepreneurship and Microfinance training: Hope for teenage mothers partners with other organization to offer microfinance training and entrepreneurships. The program recruits young women of up to age 30 years for the training. The training takes 3 months with flexible training hours.
• Community Partnership: We partner with nutritionists and health workers to educate the community on issues of HIV/AIDs and nutrition for mothers and children.
• Community Development – (Empower leaders to become teenage pregnancies prevention educators and advocates): We train the marginalized communities on how to make recyclable sanitary towels (We have trained women in (Lewa, Kibera, Dagoretti and Mukuru).
• Orphan support with medical care & nutrition and school uniforms, clothes and books.
• Scaling up advocacy initiatives and respond to Gender Based Problems
• Counseling: Hope for teenage mothers is looking for volunteers to offer counseling to the teen mums on crisis pregnancies and on the ups and downs of life.
• Mentorship: In partnership with Carlile College the teen mums are taken through a 12 months mentorship/discipleship program.
