About us

Maanso Centre for Human Rights (MCHR) is a local non-political and non-profit national Organization. The primary aim of MCHR is to assist individuals, communities and others whose fundamental human rights have been infringed upon to seek redress within the remit of domestic and international legal framework.

Vision Statement:
A just Horn of Africa in which all people enjoy human rights and live in dignity.

Mission Statement:
MCHR´s purpose is to PROMOTE, UPHOLD, and STRENGTHEN human rights and advocate social change through capacity building, advocacy, and research. Its mission is to grow a resource of Somali wisdom, expertise and a strong voice to be able to maintain sustainable human rights culture through collaboration with national regional and international like-minded entities and as well respond effectively to the conflicts besetting different parts of the country.

Goal:
To empower communities exercise their fundamental human rights and attain a just Horn of Africa, where people equally enjoy their fundamental human rights.

Objectives:
• Research and documentation and communities organized around specific human rights issues, strengthened and developed into powerful advocacy.
• To undertake skill development training programs for women society on handicraft, hand loom, horticulture, and assist them by giving them short term loan for creating sources of income by themselves.
• To print or publish human rights education periodical magazines, books, pamphlets, leaflets or booklets that the MCHR may considered desirable or helpful in the promotion of its objects.
• To co-operate and assist in suitable joint venture with the governmental organizations and agencies seeking the goal of redressing poverty and improving human rights status.
• Women empowerment organizing, mobilizing, developing capacity and skills and creating provision of inclusion in decision making process in family and community enabling them to become economically and socially independent.
• Protection and preservation of culture, language and tradition of tribal indigenous people.
• To seek and receive subscriptions, donations and other supports from persons, institutions or organizations both from home and abroad and use the same for the purposes of the organization´s mandate.
• To increase advocacy and raise public awareness on human rights issues in the region.
• To promote human rights education across the communities to enable them demand their fundamental human rights.

Our work
• One of the components of MCHR is human rights education, awareness, research and advocacy and training.
• The office does this through conferences, workshops and community-based campaigns, and conducts fact finding missions to address human rights violations.
• It monitors and evaluates compliance with human rights standards through transfer of skills.
• We will build the capacity of communities to protect their human rights.
• The office runs a human rights and referral centre (Human Rights Clinic) for individuals.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
