About us
Aquaculture without Frontiers (AwF) is a registered non-profit organization based in the USA and Australia, and was launched at the World Aquaculture Society meeting in Hawaii in March 2004. AwF is an organization of global volunteer aquaculture professionals who network; who are passionate about aquaculture and its ability to engage, train and feed the disadvantaged; and who create initiatives, projects and programs.
Mission Statement
Aquaculture without Frontiers is a registered charity whose mission is to promote and support responsible and sustainable aquaculture to alleviate poverty and malnutrition and to enhance food security for disadvantaged people.
Our 3 Key Strategies
• Transfer knowledge & technology
• Develop and increase capacity
• Build and maintain a platform
Activities:
• Support basic aquaculture value chain development
• Share best aquaculture practices through internship activities and via virtual web-based mentoring
• Provide technical and managerial experience
• Promote partnering, networking, collaborating and sharing of ideas to overcome challenges and create opportunities
• Establish partnerships with local organizations and groups with similar or complementary goals
• Integrate aquaculture projects with other food production & food security programs
• Recognize the need to educate and support women and young people and foster the development of leaders
• Mentor local professionals and enhances knowledge exchange
• Enable the organisation to work effectively and efficiently to achieve all key strategies
• Donation of time and money
• Carry out projects that are carefully monitored and assessed for impact and effectiveness in alleviating poverty
Current Projects and Field Activities:
• creating networks in women/gender, schools/students and indigenous activities
• building on our volunteer base as that is crucial to our activities
• expanding our collaborations with various groups worldwide
• continuing work in La Pesca/Tampico, Mexico with our first Aquaculture Learning Centre and now expanding to Kerala, India and and are seeking to develop that activity in other centres
• promoting our activities through meetings
• Farmer-to-Farmer Program
