About us

Ashakiran, founded in 2012, has its headquarters in Hinterzarten in Germany. We support state-approved aid projects in India. Ashakiran's goal is to provide reconstruction aid in the remote villages of Odhisa. It helps the impoverished families in their struggle for survival and shows them new hope and perspectives.

Our work:
• Our activities are broad and consist of several project units that are part of an overall concept that aims to effectively analyze, address and ultimately to solve the problems of poverty, lack of knowledge and disease at their roots.
• This is done by helping vulnerable people, primarily women and children, in India and South Asia. These include initiating and implementing practical, effective and sustainable projects and actions that directly benefit those target groups (including setting up local support groups, savings and loan initiatives, small business development, development of a microfinance system, the establishment and operation of school and health centres, vocational training, adult education and village development). This is intended to contribute to solving livelihood problems through practical, grassroots-funded projects. In particular, we call for women's rights and their access to the legal system.

Projects:
• Support for two orphanages in the Kandhmal Mountains, help for 100 children: they receive a safe home, comprehensive care, good food and, above all, educational and artistic support. After completing elementary school, Ashakiran supports the further education of the children.
• Self-help project for impoverished widows and scholarships for their children: Ashakiran initiated the women's self-help group (SHG) Ishvari in Kurtumgarh and supports their activities (goat project and vegetable cultivation)
• Medical assistance for the Karunalaya Leprastation in Puri and the Hospital of the Banabasi Seva Centre in Balliguda: The Association supports the very reputable leprosy centre on many levels: purchase of medicine and bandages; renovation of the infirmary, new beds, washrooms and toilets, mosquito screens, the building of a large solar system on the roof to provide a constant supply of electricity; solar water heater for warm water for the sick; financing of important furnishings: washing machine, water filter etc., financing a temporary shelter for leprosy patients who are receiving outpatient treatment in the infirmary.
• Support of the Banabasi Seva Centre in Balliguda. There, 600 children find a new home, including blind and deaf-mute children. We finance the in-house infirmary. and pay the doctor, who practices several times a week in the hospital of the Banabasi Seva Centre and we pay for a full-time nurse. Also urgently needed medicine is being financed.
• Organization of self-help courses for girls
• Financing the education of gifted girls, to become plumbers or carpenters
• Promotion of solar energy (solar panels, solar lamps, solar water heaters, solar pumps).
