Sobre nosotros
The Amazonian Initiative Movement, adequately abbreviated with AIM, is a small independent women’s rights organization founded by Rugiatu Turay in the Sierra-Leonean Town Lunsar in 2003.
AIM’s vision are strong, self-reliant women who can challenge issues that affect them.
Its mission is to promote and protect the rights of girls and women through education, advocacy and capacity building as well as empowerment.
The main object is to overcome female genital cutting that affects more than 90 percent of Sierra-Leonean women and girls.
Furthermore, AIM also addresses women’s rights violations like forced marriage and domestic violence.
The organization runs a shelter for girls and it implements sensitizing projects and income generating activities.
AIM advocates for women’s rights on the local, regional and partly also international level.
