CARA (The Central Africa Rights and AIDS Society) was set up in July 2003 to provide free legal advice and representation to people facing disadvantage in the UK and Africa.
CARA is an independent international charity, which main activities include:
• HIV/AIDS: prevention, care and support for those affected; through Outreach: We distribute free condoms and sexual health information about HIV/AIDS and other STIs; Drop-in service: Providing advice on sexual health issues and signposting to the relevant public services; Campaigns: Working with the communities to reduce the incidence of HIV, STIs and teenage pregnancy; Support Group/Discussion: Prevention, care and support for those affected by HIV/AIDS and their family; Workshop/Seminars to empower poor people, especially women, to be in control of their sexual health;
• Health: striving to reduce childhood death and illness;
• Education: providing quality basic education for all, especially girls;
• Water and sanitation: provision of clean water and adequate sanitation;
• Protection for people affected by conflict, natural disaster and exploitation;
• Translation & Interpretation Services in French, Somali, Kinyarwanda, Lingala & English;
• Legal: helping the poor to know, understand and achieve their rights;
Jean-Paul Lawrence Tampu-Eya is the Community Legal Adviser and the Co-ordinator of CARA.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work
