Sobre nosotros

Health Poverty Action, formerly named Health Unlimited, was founded in 1984 by a group of British doctors.

Health Poverty Action works to strengthen poor and marginalised people in their struggle for health. We prioritise those missed out by almost everyone else. Health Poverty Action recognises health as a fundamental human right, not simply a medical challenge.

As well as improving health services and immunisation programmes, we target other areas such as nutrition, water, sanitation and income generation.

Health Poverty Action conducts a wide range of activities each year to strengthen poor and marginalised people in their struggle for health. These are in four broad categories:
• In-country development programmes
• Influencing the policy and practice of others
• Responding to emergencies
• Providing consultancy and other contracted services

Campaigns:
• Mothers on the Margins: Indigenous women, or those from other cultural minorities, are more likely to die or face complications related to pregnancy. Health Poverty Action’s new Mothers on the Margins campaign is calling for action to change this – and working in partnership with indigenous communities themselves.
• Trading With Lives: India is one of the biggest producers of life-saving, cheap generic medicines. Without access to these drugs the lives of millions of the poorest people around the world are at risk.
• Robin Hood Tax campaign: A tiny tax on international bankers’ transactions could generate hundreds of billions of pounds to tackle global poverty, climate change, and social needs in the UK as well.
• Keep your promises: calling on the UK government to deliver on the commitments it has made in the areas of aid and development.

Health Poverty Action runs programmes in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
