Sobre nosotros
The nonprofit development association Kanduyi Children was founded in 2007 by Philip Oprong Spenner. Kanduyi Children initially supported the Kanduyi Children's Home in Kenya. This ensured that the children's Home could be maintained over the years, and the quality of life of the children improved. In the middle of 2012, an independent continuation of the children's Home was achieved and Kanduyi Children ended the cooperation with the Home because the goal of sustainable help for self-help had been achieved.
Since May 2013, needy children in West Kenya have been given a chance for an independent future. For this purpose, Kanduyi Children founded a charity facility in Kenya - the BHF - which raises school fees for children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.
Goals and guiding principles
Our goal is sustainable development, based on self-help and the promotion of education.
The implementation of our support follows these guiding principles:
• Maximum involvement of local partners and volunteers (participation)
• No advertising costs and expenses
• Volunteering in Kenya and Germany
• Direct support without middlemen
• Complete transparency at all organizational levels
• Personal and individual support for needy children in West Kenya
Our work:
• Currently 146 secondary school children and one student are being supported.
• Especially vulnerable children receive school clothes and additional meals during school holidays. During school, not only education is provided, but also medical care, food and pleasant accommodation. In addition, the children and adolescents have a carer at their side, who provides individual support in all matters. During school holidays, study groups and workshops are offered.
• Scope of funding: The program will be expanded depending on the level of donations. The children are selected according to a means-test: every child deemed to be financially needy takes part in the selection process. This is done by lot, taking into account an equal distribution between girls and boys.
Philip Oprong Spenner is chairman of the association and Pia Röpke is employed by the Friends of Kanduyi Children.
On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
