Sobre nosotros
GOALS is a registered non-profit organization in the United States and a registered football club in Haiti. Founded in 2010 in the remote village of Destra our programs have been replicated in three different villages near the town of Léogane. We rely on our communities and the trusted relationships we have fostered over the years to provide crucial feedback for our program development and for our response to emergency situations such as Hurricane Matthew. Our success has been due to the collaboration with community leaders and individual family members who know their needs best.
Our vision
We envision a future in which every child in rural Haiti can realize their potential and follow their dreams.
Our mission
GOALS advances youth leadership through soccer and education to create stronger, healthier communities in rural Haiti.
GOALS uses soccer in Haiti to engage youth and their families in programs that emphasize education, health and the environment to improve their quality of life on a daily basis. Through leadership development and social change initiatives we are creating stronger, healthier communities in rural Haiti.
Programs:
Soccer:
• Soccer is the heart of our programs. At GOALS, our kids are provided the coaching, equipment, food, and water plus the mentoring and team support needed to practice and play competitively. Founded in 2010 in the remote village of Destra our programs have been replicated in three different villages near the town of Léogane. Approx 350 boys and girls (ages 7 – 18) participate on a daily basis, and outreach to players families, schools and other soccer clubs impacts an additional estimated 7,000 people. In order for soccer teams to join GOALS, each community must support both girls’ and boys’ participation in equal numbers advancing gender equality.
Education:
• Literacy: GOALS’ ‘Leveling the Playing Field’ literacy project uses the power of sport to build locally-led literacy programming in order to create fully literate communities, improving local leadership, health and future earning potential.
• The Dream Team: The Dream Team scholarship program focuses intensively on a select number of participants who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to their communities within GOALS’ youth development programs, and help them complete high school and prepare for future studies and careers. Students are selected through a rigorous application process. Scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, commitment to local development, demonstrated leadership skills, and financial need. Scholarships are offered to students in rural communities in the Léogane area. In exchange for scholarships, Dream Team members perform extra service projects.
Community service:
• Community service includes public town meetings, census and needs assessment surveys, and local development projects that involve players’ families and adults in the area. Service also includes activities and events organized for children younger than 10 years old, and players who don’t yet have places on local GOALS teams. GOALS teams often fulfill their community service requirement by conducting community outreach programs for local adults and children. We most recently started a new tree nursery "Pepinye" project located in our Bossan site. Working with a local agronmist kids are learning to plant and care for tree seedlings. Community service focuses on health education and disease prevention through interactive workshops.
