Sobre nosotros
Burundi and Us (Burundi und Wir) is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 with its headquarters in Erkelenz, Germany, which wants to help the poorest people in the provinces of Muyinga and Kirundo in Burundi.
We work together with ADDESI, a local organization that mainly consists of active primary school teachers.
ADDESI has set itself the task of schooling or training orphans who have to live without any family or social ties (i.e. street children).
ADDESI places the street children in foster families and creates the prerequisites for school attendance.
Our approach:
We seek to strengthen children and families before the children become child soldiers or criminals!
Activities
• We motivate the foster families by a one-off donation of goats. This is followed up by us paying running costs such as school fees, school uniforms for the children and writing materials. We also provide targeted help in individual cases, eg in the procurement of glasses or sports shoes.
• We currently support 63 children who are housed in foster families. In the meantime, 11 children have obtained a middle school qualification or vocational training. Two children have obtained a university entrance qualification, one of whom is now studying civil engineering in Kampala (Uganda).
• Regular campaigns in Germany: Burundi and Us offers articles from Burundi for sale at markets and exhibitions. These are almost exclusively handicrafts from Burundi and Rwanda. The proceeds from the sale are of course donated to our association.
Glorios Mukankusi-Franken is the founder of Burundi and Us.
On request we can offer other net participants advice, give a presentation, and provide up-to-date information and contacts in the field of our work.
