Sobre nosotros
GENUVI (Society for International Farm Animal Diversity in Germany) was founded in Germany in December 2004, and registered as a non-profit organisation. The society works towards the preservation and breeding coordination of livestock, especially the protection of rare and endangered old breeds which are kept in Germany but are not monitored by means of the “red list” of the GEH (Society for the Maintenance of Old and Endangered Breeds of Domestic Animals).
Tasks
• The new society is to be a meeting point, contact partner, advisor, breeding coordinator and provider of animals, leading to an improved breeding rotation (living gene reserves).
• The existence and stock size of any breeding centres is also to be notified where possible, or else registered as possible breeding reserves with important breeders in the lands of origin.
• The society can also own breeding stock by functioning as a collection centre for small populations of certain breeds whose offspring can be passed on to members.
Service
• GENUVI has an internet link to the forum "VIEH" (Diverse Initiatives for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Domestic Animals). The founder of VIEH is one of our members, Herwig zum Berge.
• GENUVI encompasses over 46 foreign varieties of animals and over 670 owners of such breeds, with an estimated 6300 animals.
• GENUVI provides support for breeders, fellow campaigners and other interested parties. It supports the preservation and security of the various breeds by providing an information and exchange network.
Projects
• At the present time, GENUVI is financially supporting an international research project on the monitoring, genetics and stock safeguarding of the endangered French redhead sheep (Rouge du Roussillon) in Germany.
• With a second project, GENUVI is helping the only Danish domestic animal park with the preservation of the Dansk Sortbroget Svin (Danish bell pig).
