Sobre nosotros
The Learning Center for the Deaf (LCD) is a non-profit Charitable Service Organization, non-sectarian, and non-governmental association established in 2001 to promote, facilitate, and empower deaf men and women through education throughout Lebanon.
The LCD was initially established by Dr. Hussein Ismail and his wife Nadine, a teacher of the Deaf, later joined by a group of deaf persons and forming the first board of Directors of the LCD.
The purpose of The Learning Center for the Deaf (LCD), is to provide quality programs to respond to the urgent needs of deaf persons in Lebanon, with great emphasis on education in its broad meaning, on advocacy, and awareness.
Therefore, the center was initiated with the aim of providing different services that respond to these needs. The first services founded were the Early Intervention Program and the High School program. However, an array of services was consequently initiated and through the years, with the aim to provide the Deaf a better world, respecting their right for equal opportunities, accessibility, social inclusion, and protection of their identity.

LCD´s program and services:
• Early Intervention Program (EIP) is designed for parents of deaf babies and young children from 0-3 years of age. Full moral and psychological support; Information that is ought to help them be their child’s best advocate; The possibility to develop the skills that they need to provide to their child the best language learning opportunities, as well as to enhance his/her general development; Guidance that helps parents communicate their child’s needs and interests with other professionals, decide for the most suitable mode of communication which they are ready to enhance, and make a choice of school that responds to their child’s needs
• Outreach / Early Detection: Screening Tests education and follow up in remote areas
• High School Education for the Deaf: The high school provides a program for further education beyond the Brevet studies, toward Baccalaureate level - from Grade 10 to 12 - for the Deaf in Lebanon.
• Technical Center: This Program provides technical educations such as accounting, computer sciences (graphic design, AutoCAD, Architecture, etc.) allowing the deaf to have a choice other than academic education. This program lasts for 3 years and leading for Baccalaureate Technique issued by the Lebanese Ministry of Education.
• Educational Activities for the Deaf: his program is designed to promote adult deaf people to learn and improve specific subject matters, such as Languages: English, Arabic; Subject Matters: Book-keeping, etc.; Computer Literacy; Home Economics for deaf mothers; Cooking lessons; General Knowledge; Sign Language Courses for parents of deaf children and other concerned individuals. Educational Activities for the Deaf is also a program of socialization as well as a chance to empower the deaf.
• Awareness Programs to promote the image of deaf people: Talks through media; A book about deafness; Activities in regular kindergarten and primary settings; National Campaign for awareness on Early Detection and Early Intervention Program; 4 Books on Lebanese Sign Language.
• Seminars, Training, and Workshops
• Speech and Language Therapy: This service is designed for deaf children who are older than 6 years as well as deaf adults who wish to enhance their speech and language skills.
• Preparation for Audiometry
Dr. Hussein Ismail is the Director of the Learning Center for the Deaf (LCD).
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
