Sobre nosotros
Child Space Organization (CSO) is a legally registered non-profit social service organization in Kenya, working with Children, youth, Parents/Guardians, teachers and other institutions with an aim of empowering them with value-based Behavior Change Process (BCP) trainings and vital Life Skills.
Our mission
To guide the children and young people through life skills and other pertinent trainings and empower them and their families to live responsibly.
Vision
Safe societies with healthy children and responsible young people.
The organization is highly committed to holistic child development by helping the neediest and marginalized children and families in Kenya. Our work mainly targets the vulnerable children, youth and women living in Nairobi’s informal settlements namely: - Korogocho, Baba Dogo, Kariobangi, Mathare and their environs.
Our work is to ensure that children and adolescents are safe, healthy, and empowered to be responsible in the community where they live, play, and learn.
We strongly believe we can support the children and young people to form positive behaviors at early stages in life and help them to also change the negative behaviors through gradual but consistent change processes that require professionalism and patience to attain.
With established community mentorship programs such as the Smart Children Club that provides safe spaces for children which is now known as the hub of moral values and talents, we continue working on a arrange of evidence-based prevention of various social vices such as teenage pregnancies, Violence Against Children, Alcohol, Drugs and Substance Abuse, HIV&AIDS, Sexual and Gender Based Violence among others.
We value collaborations and partnerships with either local or international organizations that focus on similar and relevant thematic areas as ours.
With these partnerships, we continue to reflect our values in various spheres, while championing the evidence prevention across all our programs.
CSO believes that consistency, patience and commitment are vital when working with children and young people including community at large and thus it endeavors to instill the same in all her target population by inculcating the same to anyone that gets into contact with our work.
Our programs:
• Mental Health for Children and young people: CSO pays attention to children’s mental health and wellness because mental disorders have an impact on individuals, families, communities and nations. People with mental disorders experience disproportionately higher rates of disability and mortality. We do this through regular screening and assessment for all children in our program.
• Sexual and reproductive Health and Rights: The Menstrual Hygiene Management Policy 2019 2030 Objective 2 is to ensure that myths, taboos and stigma around menstruation are addressed by providing women, girls, men and boys access to information on menstruation. We do this by training young champions particularly boys, who provide sanitary towels to Adolescents and young women (AGYW) on a monthly basis since we also established the pad bank that we refill regularly.
• Prevention of Violence Against children: At CSO, we work to prevent violence against children by enhancing parenting skills and practices through parent plus program that seeks to improve spousal relationships, parent- child relationships and training adults and young people on importance of dialogue in families.
• Educational Support for Children: Without education, it is hard to for one to achieve his/her dreams in life. Since we work with children from low-income families, we strive to support children’s education whenever possible.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
