Sobre nosotros
CO-OPERAID is a non-profit, politically and confessionally independent, humanitarian Swiss association with its headquarters in Zurich. The association was founded in 1981,
The projects of CO-OPERAID help impoverished children and young people in a current total of five countries in Africa and Asia. The aim of these projects is basic education for all children and the promotion of secondary and vocational education. At the same time the economic situation of the children’s and young people´s families is improved. CO-OPERAID refers in its work to the rights of the child, in particular the right to education and training. Aids orphans, children of impoverished rural populations, children of ethnic minorities and war victims are at the centre of our projects. Equal education for girls and boys and cooperation with women´s groups are special concerns of ours.
Projects:
• Vijana Na Ujuzi Project, Kenya: The course offering of the schools was extended to include new professional courses, supplemented by business training. Computer rooms and accompanying lessons have been set up. Also, the YPs have introduced sports lessons, HIV / AIDS awareness-raising activities and Girls´ Clubs (122 members). All the clubs have started income-generating projects involving animal breeding.
• Uganda: Community Led Education project (COLE): The aim of COLE project in Uganda is to improve the quality of education for children in primary schools and to support better livelihoods for poor farmer families in Zombo district in West Nile region. It supports the teaching and learning process of pupils and teachers through trainings and additional school activities. It creates awareness on basic life skills (HIV/AIDS, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights etc.). Moreover, it supports caregiver groups to engage in income generating activities.
• Bangladesh: Upasshak project: Upasshak project is dedicated to helping the children of ethnic minorities in the Bandarban Hill Tracts in Bangladesh by raising the local education rate. In ten remote villages the project runs village schools with about 400 school children. Two hostels in Bandarban city allow 50 youths of those villages to also obtain secondary school education.
• Cambodia: Ches Pi Rien project: The project supports the education of about 900 school children in rural Cambodia. The children come from poor rice farming families, who do not have the money to buy school materials. CO-OPERAID has supplied these materials and has financed the construction of school infrastructure. The parents are regularly involved in the school´s activities through the parents´ association. Considerable attention is paid to further education of the teachers and improvement of learning methods. Reading skills are promoted with school libraries.
• Philippines: Tallaoen project: Tallaoen vocational training project empowers about 40 out-of-school youths from Tallaoen, Luna Community, La Union, Philippines, with knowledge and work skills through vocational courses.
