Sobre nosotros
Education For Development Association (EFDA) is a national Civil Society Organization, established by motivated volunteers on June 19, 1999 and legally registered at Ministry of Justice. EFDA is re-registered on June 07, 2019, at Agency for the Civil Society Organizations following the new civil society law in Ethiopia with registration Number 0035. It is a voluntary, non-profit making membership organization led by board of Directors. It is a child- focused organization, working mainly on rural disadvantaged children and communities for the last 20 years, particularly on primary education.
Vision: Literate, self-reliant and productive community that can solve its economic, social and environmental problems.
Mission: To facilitate, foster and influence a process of ongoing change in favor of the poor through community-based development
Overall Goal: To empower community to manage their own economic, social, environmental and health problems, relying on their own skills, knowledge, and resources with a minimum dependence on external support.
Programs:
• Education: EFDA firmly believes that without creating quality education to children, it is practically impossible to bring about sustainable social change. Based on this assumption EFDA has been implementing educational projects adopting different strategies such as the Alternative Basic Education, Within-system Education Quality support, and Accelerated Learning Program for out of school children.
• Livelihood Diversification: Livelihood diversification is a food security and climate adaptation program which aims to diversify and develop the livelihood bases of the community so that they attain sustainable food security and live as hunger free society. At conceptual level diversifying source of community livelihood is a strategic approach to promote adaptive measure to the ever-changing climate and its implications. Under this program projects such as improved beekeeping, animal fattening, introduction of various agro-forestry trees, improving local stocks through hybridization and the like. These kinds of projects were financed by HEKS-Ethiopia, SIDA/CCRDA, Swiss Embassy, Christian Aid and implemented in Horro Woreda of Oromia and Maokomo Distrcts of Benishangul Gumuz Region.
• Peace Building: In recent times Ethiopia is affected by various forms of conflicts and lack of stability. As a result, EFDA have adopted peace building as one of its program areas since 2019 and implementing projects that aspire to enhance community conflict prevention capacity and resilience to the impacts of lack of peaceful life. These projects were funded by Pact Ethiopia and Dexis Consulting Group and implemented in Western Wollega and bordering woredas of Oromia and Benishangul Gumuz. The one underway in Western Wollega pays emphasis to strong youth engagement as means to deter violence and support peaceful resolution of conflicts including with government.
• Community Health: As health is an important aspect of societal wellbeing; EFDA has a program to contribute to improvement of community health focusing on education and information communication. The most common projects in relation to this project are the HIV/AIDS awareness creation, and community education on sexual reproductive health. This program also includes clean water supplies for rural communities through water well development and spring protections, along with sanitation education. Depending on a call by the Ministry of Health, EFDA also frequently participate and support national vaccination programs such as polio.
