Yayra e.V. is a non-profit association founded in 2010 that is committed to promoting education in the village of Zafi (Togo). The word “Yayra” comes from the language of the Ewe, a tribal group that lives in Togo, and means “blessing”.
At the moment, Yayra is primarily supporting the renovation and expansion of the school in the village of Zafi. In order to raise the funds to build the school, the association organizes various events and projects to collect donations.
Close cooperation with the local parent and school initiatives in Togo is important to us. The teams in Zafi are responsible for implementing construction projects and improvement measures themselves and receive advice and financial support from Yayra.

Our goals
In our work, we focus on improving the educational situation in the rural village of Zafi. We are convinced that access to education is an important step in the fight against poverty, disease and hardship and a prerequisite for personal responsibility.
That is why we want to support the people of Zafi in providing access to education for all. We want to achieve this by supporting the expansion of existing institutions that have not yet been able to fulfill the necessary capacities. Our most important goals are therefore
- Provide children with access to primary education.
- Provide children with access to secondary education.
- Build a stable foundation for the future by providing further training for adults.
Our efforts are mainly focused on the village of Zafi in Togo, but also more broadly on the Maritime region, where the Togolese village is located.

Projects and programs:
- Sponsorships: We have developed a sponsorship program that focuses on secondary school education. This gives the children the opportunity to attend the Collège (4 years) and the subsequent Lycée (3 years). The association supports existing local aid structures. For several years now, Zafi has had a parents' fund to support families who do not have the financial means to send their children to school. The children are not selected on the basis of academic performance, but solely on the basis of need. The selection is coordinated by the association in cooperation with our local project partners.
- New buildings for the Catholic elementary school
- Sanitary facilities for the Catholic school and the state elementary school
