Sobre nosotros
In 2019, the German association ‘Hoffnung leben’ was founded to better meet the need for first aid on Lesbos. The search for suitable cooperation partners on Lesvos was unsuccessful. The Greek association Ariadni Lesvos was therefore founded in 2022.
Our organization was born out of a deep connection to Lesvos Island and a commitment to support the local community and the refugees who have found shelter here. Founded by people who share a passion for the island’s rich history, culture, and natural beauty, Ariadni works to create safe spaces and opportunities for personal growth, integration, and empowerment, especially for women and children.
Since our founding, we have been dedicated to empowering women and children, promoting cross-cultural understanding, and building bridges between the refugee community and local residents. Our work is rooted in the belief that, through dialogue, creativity, and shared experiences, we can all contribute to a more inclusive, compassionate world.
Ariadni Lesvos works to empower women and children refugees living in the Mavrovouni refugee camp on Lesvos Island through education and environmental initiatives. Operating from a home in a residential neighborhood in Mitilini, we provide a safe and inclusive space where women and children can participate in creative activities, learn, relax, and enjoy themselves. Our programs foster cross-cultural connections and build collective resilience within refugee communities and beyond. Driven by our commitment to empowerment, education, and environmental stewardship, we believe that by bridging communities, we can create lasting solutions for a more sustainable and equitable future.
Our Motto:
For Each Other – With Each Other – Shaping the Future Together
Activities:
• Melina Women: Melina Women is a dedicated program providing a safe, supportive environment for women and girls to engage in personal development. The program offers activities such as cooking, sewing, and handicrafts, along with practical support like using washing facilities. The goal is to create a welcoming space for women to relax, connect, and grow.
• EcoKids: EcoKids is an environmental education program for children from the Mavrovouni refugee camp and the local community. Guided by our dedicated educator, the program teaches sustainability, climate change, and environmental stewardship through interactive and theoretical lessons.
• Let's Talk: Let’s Talk promotes cross-cultural dialogue, fostering mutual understanding and integration for refugee women and children. These sessions include language lessons, health workshops, and discussions about life in Europe, helping participants adapt to new environments and supporting their successful integration into the community.
• Excursions: Excursions provide enriching educational outings for both Melina Women and EcoKids students. These trips to historical, cultural, and environmental sites around Lesvos promote learning and cultural appreciation. By exploring the island, participants connect with local culture and enjoy a day of fun and discovery, concluding with a shared meal at a local taverna.
