Pelag Foundation is a grassroots, youth and women-led non-profit organization working in Uttarakhand to uplift rural and marginalized communities through sustainable livelihoods, health, education, and environmental initiatives. Established in January 2023 and based in Almora, the organization focuses on creating community-driven solutions that promote self-reliance and long-term development in remote Himalayan regions. Recognized as a Social Impact Startup by the Government of India (DPIIT), Pelag Foundation combines local knowledge with innovative approaches to deliver measurable impact. The foundation actively collaborates with government bodies, institutions, and CSR partners to scale its initiatives and strengthen grassroots systems.

Our Mission
To reach out to the marginalized section of the society, specially focusing to the women, children & Youths of the needy section of the targeted area. Empower underprivileged community about gender & their rights prospective through community participation for sustainable development.

Our Vision
Endeavors to evolve innovative approach and process to utilize traditional skill and knowledge based to make development project more efficient and eco-friendly.

Our initiatives:
• Education: Pelag Foundation works to improve access to quality education for children and youth in remote and underserved areas of Uttarakhand. The organization conducts educational tours for underprivileged school children and organizes various learning and exposure programs to enhance their knowledge, confidence, and overall learning capacity. It also supports a community school in Rajpur, Almora, dedicated to the education of underprivileged students. In addition, Pelag Foundation promotes digital literacy, life skills, and career guidance to prepare youth for future opportunities.
• Health: Pelag Foundation works to improve community health and wellbeing in underserved areas of Uttarakhand through preventive care and awareness initiatives. The organization has supported schools by donating water purifiers to ensure access to safe drinking water for children. It regularly organizes health camps, breast cancer awareness programs, and community health melas to promote early detection and healthy practices. Through these efforts, Pelag Foundation aims to strengthen health awareness and access at the grassroots level.
• Agriculture: Pelag Foundation promotes sustainable agriculture practices in Uttarakhand by encouraging natural and organic farming among rural communities. The organization supports farmers in adopting eco-friendly techniques that improve soil health and reduce input costs. It also promotes diversification of agriculture through allied activities such as beekeeping and horticulture to enhance income opportunities. By strengthening agriculture-based livelihoods, Pelag Foundation helps build resilient and self-reliant rural communities.
• Environment: Pelag Foundation is committed to environmental conservation in Uttarakhand by creating continuous awareness among communities on sustainability and protection of natural resources. The organization is working towards establishing 3–4 Miyawaki forests to promote dense, native green cover and enhance local biodiversity. Additionally, Pelag Foundation is working with different Van Panchayats (community forests), including the preparation of 5-year micro plans for sustainable forest management.
• Women Empowerment: Pelag Foundation actively promotes women empowerment by organizing and strengthening Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) and facilitating access to financial linkages for income generation. The organization provides skill development trainings to both rural and urban women, enabling them to build sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurial capacities. It further supports women by creating market linkages, helping them showcase and sell their products through melas, exhibitions, and local platforms.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
