Sobre nosotros

SATIS – promoting humane education methods which avoid the use of animals – was founded in 1988 as the German Federation SATIS by dedicated students and animal rights activists as a non-profit, nationwide working association. In order to make the animal welfare work in the universities more effective and to develop an information network, it united the many activities of student work groups, which were at that time campaigning in their universities to provide degree courses which did not include tests on animals. Due to the constant fluctuation of the students working on the project, in 2000 SATIS ceased being a society and instead became a working group within the National Association for the Protection of Animal Rights.

All over the world, budding biologists, physicians and veterinarians are being trained using methods which harm animals. This is not only cruel to the animals involved, but also reduces the students' respect for and ethical awareness of, other species. With the SATIS (latin: enough) project, the National Association champions the cause of humane training courses which do not involve animal testing. There are already a large number of innovative and high-quality humane teaching materials, which are in no way inferior to the traditional course offerings and in some cases perform even better.

Activities
• In 2011, SATIS published the first University Ethics Ranking. This shows in which universities and in which areas animal testing is still being carried out instead of using teaching materials which do not involve animals.
• SATIS sees itself as a contact point for students, lecturers and producers of alternative teaching materials. On our website you can find links to online databases with animal-free teaching materials as well as teaching materials which can be hired from our partner organisation InterNICHE (International Network for humane education).
Humane teaching methods or "alternatives" should not duplicate animal testing exercises. Rather they should be independent teaching and learning methods which are primarily directed at the relevant objectives. And thereby they are often superior to methods using animals.
Alternatives are eg.:
• Computer simulation
• Videos
• Plastic models and phantoms
• Simulators
• Plastination (a method of permanently preserving tissue in a 'life-like' state)
• Experiments on oneself
• Treatments and diagnostical procedures on human and animal patients
• The use of animals who have died a natural death.
