Commonly referred to as `Haki House´ (Right House) by refugees, Refugee Consortium of Kenya (RCK) is a national non-governmental organization that was established in 1998. RCK´s mission is to promote and protect the rights and dignity of refugees, asylum seekers, IDPs and other forced migrants in Kenya and the wider East African region. It was established as a response to an increasingly complex and deteriorating refugee situation in Kenya and the region.

RCK´s core mandate is to: provide legal aid services and psycho-social counseling; engage in advocacy for policy change and to develop legislation in line with international instruments regarding the management of refugees and other forced migrants; and to raise awareness regarding the plight and rights of the vulernable groups through research and information dissemination.

To protect and promote the rights and dignity of refugees and other forced migrants through enabling programmes of legal aid, advocacy and awareness creation.

Our work
RCK´s core mandate is the provision of legal aid services to refugees, engaging in advocacy for policy change and development of legislation in line with international instruments and standards on management of refugees and other forced migrants, and through research and information dissemination for awareness-raising on the plight and rights of refugees in Kenya and the East African region.
• Advocacy and Policy Development: This programme seeks to contribute to the creation of an asylum environment where refugees and other forced migrants enjoy their rights and live in dignity. It focuses on three thematic areas, which include: Policy Influence; Capacity Building; and Protection Monitoring.
• Legal and Social Justice: The LSJ is the largest programme for RCK and its overall goal is to ensure that refugees and other forced migrants access justice.
• Communication, Research & Monitoring: This programme seeks to develop and disseminate information that will empower various actors including refugees and other forced migrants. The information developed by RCK is designed to enlighten the public, including policy makers, on the plight of displaced persons.
