Sobre nosotros
The ant (the action northeast trust) is an NGO started in 2000 and based in Rowmari in Lower Assam. It works directly for village development in Chirang District of Bodoland in Lower Assam. At another level, it works with other NGOs to build up the voluntary sector in the northeast region.
Its strategies include forming women´s collectives, giving village children development and learning opportunities through sports, active science classes etc.; promoting cross-community interactions and nurturing safe spaces for non-violent conflict resolution; promoting livelihoods which are safe and sustainable and also running a community mental health programme.
Mission
To work towards sustainable and holistic development with rural and poor voiceless communities mainly in the northeast.
Vision
A peaceful world where there is love, respect and dignity for all.
Ant´s Initiatives:
• Village Development: The ant works directly in around 250 village hamlets across 7 work clusters in Chirang District in Bodoland, Assam – bordering Bhutan: Child and Youth Development; Empowering Women and Girls; Building peace and justice; Promoting Community Health; Remote Areas Development Programme
• Aagor Daagra Afad: Aagor is the ant´s in-house weaving project that aims at providing women of the Bodo region sustainable income using traditional skills.
• The ant´s Craft Store: The ant´s Craft Store, an offshoot of the ant located in Bangalore showcases the handlooms and crafts sourced from NGOs across northeast
• IDeA (the Institute of Development Action): Strengthening the North East Voluntary Sector
Projects:
• Avahan (Stop Domestic Violence): Our Self Help Groups or "Jagruti groups" formed in 2001 were always meant to tackle social issues
• Sports for Development Programme: The project aptly titled tries to educate children through sports as a curriculum.
• ant´s Earlier Health interventions: Decades of conflict has collapsed government health services and it is yet to recover and be effective.
• Project Bigyaan (Science on Wheels): This project works at making science-learning, often a daunting task, do-able and fun.
• Community Mental Health Project: Every month, the ant conducts mental illness treatment camps at its own campus.
• Women´s Cycle Bank Project: Through this project, women buy cycles on loans, gaining mobility and hence power in their hands
• Project Shiksha: The project aims at creating spaces for unperturbed learning and developing all-round excellence in kids from the interior villages of Bodoland.
• Project Dolphin - the ant´s education project: Like playful dolphins, we wanted to bring joy and fun into the learning experience of children in government schools.
