It was in 1985 that those responsible for the twinning of the towns Morbach and Pont sur Yonne / Bourgogne decided to offer their combined help and support for local projects in Africa, in order to involve themselves in third world problems.

The first project was carried out in1986/87: the Nakomo Dam.

Thanks to the help of the people of Morbach and its surroundings, as well as our friends from Pont sur Yonne, it was then possible to finance and implement other projects. The contact with Pater Helmut Kaiser has been crucial. The parish of Geraberg / Thüringen has been involved in the «MALI-HILFE» projects since 1995.

A great deal of money has been raised recently by means of social aid schemes, donations and subscriptions. This has enabled the implementation of many aid projects in Mali, to the tune of approx. € 1,200,000.- (with the 2007/ 2008 projects).

What is more, the money raised from the hunger marches enabled the financing of projects in other developing countries, worth more than € 50,000.

The «MALI-HILFE e.V.» association was founded in 1993. This made it possible to work more efficiently, especially since the association was able to receive funding from the BMZ (Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development). The BMZ provided up to 75% of the costs of various projects (eg the schools in Pel and Markala, the paediatrics in Pimissa, the school in Komodindé, the extension to the school in Douna Pen and the maternity units in Pel.)

The objectives of «MALI-HILFE»: according to the «Mali-Hilfe e.V.» constitution, aid projects for the development of Mali or other developing countries are to be implemented or supported.

Financing the projects: implementation through contact with Mr Bakary Keita, the local representative, and the bank contact with the Missionary Order of the White Fathers in Mopti. Thus funds raised are available in full for the projects. Other reliable local partners ensure that everything runs smoothly.
