Qui sommes-nous
Youth and Children Rights shield (YOCRIS) is a youth oriented Non- Governmental and, Non-profit making Organisation based working in Dedza Lilongwe, Salima and Mchinji Districts (Malawi). YOCRIS works with people of different walks of life in different communities in its impact areas.
Vison
YOCRIS envisages a Malawian society in which justice and peace prevails through the transformation of unjust structures and systems, on the basis of constitutionalism and other international legal instruments provisions
Mission
Our mission statement is to contribute towards the transformation of the Malawian society for the attainment of justice and peace.
Strategic objectives include:
• To build the capacity of youth to take up positive roles in society through appropriate training programmes.
• To enhance citizen participation in issues all developmental issues, improving access to and quality of basic education, environmental issues, democratization matters and other cross cutting issues.
• To promote positive youth participation and responsible youth leadership in the democratic society and other issues that affects youth welfare and promotion of good governance.
• To advocate for the protection and promotion of the rights of children, youth and all people.
• To embark on programmes that prevents the spread of HIV/AIDS, sexual reproductive health, and sexual rights matters.
Programs
• Democracy and Human Rights: The program looks at preventing, monitoring and reporting of child rights abuses related issues. This program works towards protecting children from various forms of abuses and exploitation. The programs also looks at innovative ways of proteting minortiy groups and more particulary sexual minorities. Strategies include Capacity building through trainings on appropriate issues; Strengthening of local structures that suppport protection of human rights; Child abuse prevention, monitoring and reporting; Social mobilization campaign and Advocacy.
• Primary Education Support: The project is promoting rights based approach when dealing with issues that affect access to and quality of basic education of children in communities regardless of sex and gender. Strategies include Capacity building for community leaders, faith community, opinion leaders and school governing boards through appropriate training programs; Advocacy on issues which are impediments to girls education; Social mobilization and Training for transformation.
• Youth participation: It seeks to prepare the youth to face the social, political, economical and cultural challenges ahead of them through capacity building. Strategies include Establishment of youth clubs; Capacity building training for existing and new youth clubs in number of areas; Capacity building trainings for Community Based Organization in a number of areas; Agro base activities and Entrepreneurship.
• HIV/AIDS and Gender: This program aims at contributing towards the achievement of gender equality in the country as the nation strives to achieve the gender parity in access to education and gender parity in a number of issues. n the area of HIV/AIDS the program seeks to enhance community mitigation in the impact of HIV/AIDS and increase access to treatment care and support. Strategies include Community mobilization on gender base violence; Sports for health; Advocacy and lobbying; Research; Capacity Building; Establishment of HBCs and Capacity building for the HBCs.
