Qui sommes-nous
Pack for a Purpose is an all-volunteer not-for-profit organization based in Raleigh, North Carolina. Created in December 2009, Pack for a Purpose was founded by Rebecca Rothney, dedicated to providing needed educational materials and medical supplies to community based projects in destinations around the world.
Aware that most airlines allow 50 pounds of luggage free on international flights, she had an idea: Why not help other travelers give to the communities they visit—just by leaving a few outfits at home?
The organization was founded on the principal that every little bit helps, and all it takes to get involved is to use a small amount space in your luggage for supplies when packing for a trip abroad. The concept is simple, and getting involved is easy.
Before departing, travelers can access the Pack For a Purpose Web site to find participating lodges in the areas where they are visiting. The Pack for a Purpose website lists, by country, the contact information for lodges around the world already supporting legitimate educational and medical community projects, and their specific needs based on the projects they sponsor.
All travelers need to do is visit the site, find a listing for a location where they are staying on their vacation, and bring a few pounds of the requested supplies in their luggage to drop off when they arrive. Each lodge listed on the Pack for a Purpose website has been contacted about the program, has agreed to participate, and will eagerly welcome all contributions from travelers.
Use available space in your luggage to provide supplies to communities you visit.
For 5 pounds (2.27 kilos) you can take:
• Five deflated soccer balls with an inflation device
• or 400 Pencils
• or a stethoscope, a blood pressure cuff, and 500 bandaids.
In only 2 years, Pack for a Purpose has expanded to support hundreds of community based projects in over 37 countries. PfaP travelers have taken over 5,000 lbs (2,268 kgs) of needed supplies around the world!
