Pies Descalzos Foundation (Barefoot Foundation) is a Colombian non-governmental organization created by the artist Shakira in 1997 with the main objective of promoting public quality education for children in vulnerable situations in Colombia.

Our Mission
We are an organization that believes in an equitable Colombia through public quality education. We do this by building educational spaces, generating innovative teachings, supporting nutrition, providing psychosocial care and promoting community development, for children in situations of vulnerability.

Our Vision
By 2020 we will reach a leading position in Colombia with our strategy of intervention in public quality education, contributing to the construction of spaces of peace for more than 21,000 beneficiaries in the Public Educational Institutions of the country and surrounding communities.

What we do?
Open Door School Strategy
• Life Tools: Through this line of intervention, we promote personal growth and sustainable development, allowing people to recognize their skills to contribute to the progress of their communities.
• Quality Public education: We are committed to quality public education. We achieved this goal with the permanent support of teachers and managers in the process of reflection and training, in relevant teaching strategies, and the construction of decent and adequate spaces for education.
• Nutrition: The Foundation aims to improve and strengthen the daily and balanced diet, as well as promote healthy lifestyles in the schools we support. Achieving that results in children with adequate levels of nutrition, have greater degrees of concentration, and enhanced learning school performance.

Anamaría Sanabria Merlo is the Communications and Public Relations Coordinator of the Pies Descalzos Foundation (Barefoot Foundation).

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
