Qui sommes-nous
Village Bicycle Project (VBP) was founded in 1999 by David Peckham, a dedicated bicycle activist and former Peace Corps Volunteer.
As a successful self-sustaining and capacity building development project, VBP gives people in Ghana and Sierra Leone a crucial tool to improve their lives by offering access to affordable and sustainable transportation. VBP addresses the devastating burden that a lack of transportation has on families in Africa, whose time could be more efficiently spent improving their education, economic stability and health.
Our Work
Village Bicycle Project empowers communities by strengthening bicycle culture. With a holistic approach, we provide quality donated bicycles at subsidized prices and offer hands-on bicycle maintenance and repair training for new owners. By identifying and training local mechanics, we make sure they have the appropriate tools and spare parts to keep bicycles running, long term. By specifically targeting women and girls, our programs begin to address gender norms that may limit them from owning and using a bicycle.
Activities:
• Bicycles with Maintenance Workshops
• Learn to Ride
• Bicycle Mechanic Training
• Bicycle Collection & Distribution
