Qui sommes-nous
Established in 2000 by Rev. Dr. Emmanuel and Dorcas Chemengich and their friends in the United States of America (USA), Mwamba Foundation was recognized as a non profit in 2003.
Mwamba Foundation works towards transforming lives in the United States of America and in Kitale, Kenya by building mutual partnerships that enhance human capacity through education, sharing of resources and cultural exchanges.
Mwamba is a swahili word for "rock", expresses the stability Mwamba foundation seeks to establish in the Kenyan people. Mwamba works through communities and churches to transform the lives of the Kenyan people by:
• Funding scholarships and donating school supplies to ensure that poor children have access to educational opportunities;
• Financing Seminary scholarships and workshops, and equipping the Church Resource Center to develop and enhance church leaders;
• Promoting women's development through entrepreneurial education.
The activities above are categorized as projects which include:
• Education: Youth Education Scholarships: We offer scholarships to needy students from poor backgrounds; Annual Youth retreats: Every year, sponsors from the U.S.A come to Kitale to hold a retreat for Mwamba students. During the retreat, students participate in workshops designed for healthy development in faith, interpersonal relations, and personal growth.
• Leadership Development: We believe that visionary leadership is key to appropriate and sustainable human development. Mwamba Foundation strives to strengthen the knowledge and professional capacity of lay leadership.
• Women Development: Because women play a vital role in the development of African societies, Mwamba Foundation seeks to equip and empower them by enhancing their skill through advocacy and awareness campaign programs against early marriages and female genital mutilation, and through community development initiatives that include adult literacy, health awareness education, HIV/AIDS prevention and management, and small business assistance and management.
• Future and Special projects: Our future plan is to build Mwamba School that would create a conducive environment for our students and allow for christian values to be instilled in our sponsored children's lives. In special cases Mwamba Foundation permits a donor to choose a project they wish to sponsor (outside those stated above), as long as it benefits the people of Kenya.
Dorcas Chemengich is the Co-Founder of Mwamba Foundation.
