Qui sommes-nous
Living Hope is a Christian non-profit organisation whose vision is to reach people for Christ, bringing hope and breaking the despair of poverty and disease.
Living Hope undertakes community development through educational, social, income generation, and health related programmes; and plays a vital role in the pervention, care and treatment of people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses.
By September 2000, a trust had been registered, called the Fish Hoek Baptist Church Community Trust, with an overriding emphasis on spreading the good news of Jesus Christ in a life-changing way: the prevention, care and treatment of HIV and AIDS; and community development through inter’alia education and health-related programmes. In 2009, the Fish Hoek Baptist Church Trust became the Living Hope Trust.
Our Vision
We seek to reach people for Christ, bringing hope and breaking the despair of poverty and disease.
Our Mission
• To spread the good news of Jesus Christ in a life changing way and to encourage people to follow Him.
• To play a vital role in the prevention, care, treatment and support of people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS and other chronic illnesses.
• To undertake community development, inter alia through education, social and health related programs.
Our work:
• Healthcare: Living Hope assists patients and their families with physical, emotional and spiritual support. We treat chronic and terminal illnesses, including HIV and TB, we provide recuperation following hospitalization and respite care in our 22-bed Health Care Centre. We also provide assistance to patients who remain in their homes as part of our Home Based Care in 6 different communities. Services are Adherence Support, Home Based Care, Support Groups, Health Care Centre and Health Counselling
• Substance Abuse Recovery Programme: Using a three-phase model we seek to treat adults struggling with chemical dependencies. As a non-residential outpatient programme, clients attend the programme daily and return to their respective communities to put into practice the skills they have learned. We firmly believe that Christ is the single most transformative power in helping individuals turn their lives around and we incorporate Biblical teaching into all aspects of the programme. Formal lectures, gender-specific groups, individual counselling, assisting with chores and interactive games, all with a therapeutic intention to renew mindsets and instil positive recovery life skills in our clients. Female admissions have shown an upward trend, and we have gained the reputation as the programme of choice for females seeking treatment
• Life Skills Education Programmes include Children and teen clubs; Holiday clubs; Early Childhood Education; Values based education in schools; Grief Support for children; HIV Support for families; The Eve Project (providing sanitary pads to teen girls); Parenting workshops and talks; Family Strengthening; Community health education campaigns; Orphans and Vulnerable Children programme.
• Way To Work: This job skills training programme is a 9 day course preparing people for work. Topics include work ethic, organisational culture, values and cultivating a healthy attitude towards work. We use an experiential learning approach to allow participants to practice skills in the classroom that will aid them in finding a job, keeping a job and moving up in their career.
• Job Centre: Many job seekers do not have affordable access to computers and lack the necessary skills to apply for jobs effectively. The Job Centre provides information and counselling services to those searching for work by sourcing advertised posts and assisting people to apply. Training is also provided to assist with improving their job seeking skills and employability.
• Agriculture and Business Training Programme: This programme focuses on Agriculture training and knowledge suited for agriculture while running a successful business. Students attend daily classroom lectures and engage in practical, hands-on experience on our farm. By participating in every step of the process from planting to preparing produce for market, students gain valuable agricultural and business experience. Additionally, students form small enterprises to provide for themselves financially while they are in the programme which teaches basic business lessons in an experiential manner.
