Qui sommes-nous
In 2014 Temi Odurinde and Abbey Longe founded Hope Spring. Hope Spring was set up to help people in communities whose inhabitants live on less than .20 a day (World Bank’s definition of extreme poverty). Women and children in such communities often walk several miles a day to fetch water. By helping them to access water closer to home, the time saved by children is usually invested in education.
We help developing communities in Nigeria and countries in West Africa access safe, clean drinking water. Our approach to water poverty alleviation, places emphasis on reducing the hundreds of hours women and children spend fetching water. The more time children spend in school, the higher their chances of breaking the poverty cycle
Our Objectives
• Assisting communities to identify the most ideal source of clean water in or around their community
• Funding or building a well or a borehole, where that is the most sustainable way to meet a community’s water challenge
• Educating and providing information, and training developing communities in the importance of basic sanitation and hygiene
• Emphasising the importance of educating children, the future leaders of their community
• Working with other WASH NGOs and donor organisations to implement water related development projects
• Undertaking school and community outreach projects to promote the importance of clean water and water conservation
What we do:
We target our water poverty alleviation efforts in communities that are having difficulties accessing safe clean water. Our assistance to a community can be in the form of a well, borehole construction, or rainwater harvesting training.
Our projects typically work in partnership with an institution of learning such as a school or a university, who deliver a sanitation and hygiene workshop as part of a project.
Hope Spring Clean water and hygiene projects:
• Alluikro Village Water Project: We employed the services of a local contractor to construct a groundwater well that provides clean water supply.
• Ijana Agangbo Ota Water Project: A Borehole was drilled, scaffold erected, tank-mounted, pipes were run, taps fixed, and clean potable water was produced. The maintenance of the Borehole was placed in the care of the Bisiriyu Akinola Arogunmola family, who was a big player in the success of Ijana Agangbo water project.
• Gofor Village Borehole Project: With help from a local contractor, we created a shallow well, installed a hand pumping mechanism that brings the water to the surface
• Claim Your Water Rights: To alleviate water poverty and empower citizens (mainly young people and marginalized groups) to claim their human rights to safe water and sanitation
• Period Poverty Alleviation training: Menstrual Hygiene Management Workshop
