Qui sommes-nous

The association KuKi Gambia was founded in 2016 and promotes education in the small village of Kubuneh in Gambia by taking on school sponsorships and implementing projects. KuKi stands for Kubuneh Kids.

School sponsorships:
In Kubuneh there are the following schools, for whose students we enable needy students to attend the school by arranging school sponsorships:
• Kubuneh Nursery School: Pupils attend the Nursery School (kindergarten and pre-school) for three years and it has around 150 pupils. After that, students transfer to Lower Basic School.
• Kubuneh Lower Basic School: The Lower Basic School (primary school) comprises six grades (grades 1 to 6) and is attended by around 300 students. In contrast to the Nursery School, from this type of school the students are only taught by graduate teachers. After that, the students switch to the Upper Basic School.
• Kubuneh Upper Basic School: The Upper Basic School (upper level) comprises three years (classes 7 to 9) and is attended by around 150 students.

Completed Projects:
• KuKi school kitchen: As our first project, the school kitchen was modernized and fitted with a smoke outlet. The women no longer have to prepare their lunch on an open fire in these premises.
• The KuKi Batik Group: The women in the village had the idea of dyeing fabrics themselves in the village and selling them for a small profit. The purchase of the fabrics is certain, as all members of the community would commit to supporting the batik group by purchasing products. In this way, the expenses for the material such as fabric and paint would be recovered quickly. The only problem is the start-up capital for the first fabric and the first colours, since they cannot raise it themselves. We at the KuKi association have decided to support the project. So the money for the initial equipment with fabrics, paints and other utensils was transferred and handed over to the local organization team
• KuKi office: An existing room was renovated and furnished so that it is now the point of contact for all parents when paying out the sponsorship money.
• KuKi Book Shop: The villagers also had the idea of setting up a book shop. We took care of the renovation and furnishing of a suitable room as well as the basic equipment with notebooks, pens, etc. The pupils, also from the surrounding villages, now have a contact point here to buy school supplies. In addition, a saleswoman has a small side income.

Current projects:
• Our largest project is the newly built training centre. The building, with a total length of around 40 m has already been erected. It has four large rooms for four different trades and a small apartment for the coordinator of the training centre there. Our goal is to give the students the opportunity to learn a craft directly in the village after they have finished school. Tailoring will start soon. The next trades should be a wood workshop and a bicycle workshop/welding shop. We have already shipped a lot of material and tools. After completing the final construction work for a well and the separate student toilets, there are still a few formalities to be completed before the first teachers can be hired. Similar to the students, we also finance the teachers by taking over sponsorships.
•Football: The small village has very active football teams, but they didn't have any equipment. A total of around 70 soccer players trained with just one soccer ball. We were able to contribute to the fact that the teams in Kubuneh are now better equipped, above all by networking with the TuS Quellen Augustfehn. Together with the TuS and other interested clubs, we will continue to support football in Kubuneh with donations in kind of football boots and jerseys that are in good condition, as well as money donations for rice for meals at away games and the necessary travel expenses.
