La Esperanza Granada

Qui sommes-nous

Located in Granada, Nicaragua, La Esperanza Granada is a volunteer group focusing on children´s education. Born in 2002, we started in one small village on the outskirts of Granada, and now help more than 2,000 children in poverty-stricken areas.
Our volunteers go out into the schools and assist the teachers, tutor young children, run sports programs, introduce children to computers, teach English and help stimulate an interest in learning. Volunteers come from around the world, for varying lengths of time.

We are a non-profit, non-political, non-denominational organization, funded by donations of individuals, groups, service groups, schools, etc. Donations are used for building new classrooms and schools, contributing to teachers salaries, and many other things to help improve education and health for the children, such as making copies of exams and worksheets, buying textbooks, dental visits, sports supplies, school repairs, and a never ending list of needs in this impoverished country.

Our mission: By providing opportunities and resources for the long term educational advancement and community development of Nicaraguan barrios we hope to brighten the future of the children by empowering the people of the villages to improve their current living conditions and break the cycle of poverty. Our focus is on children’s education.

Projects:
• Education: Our main goal is helping improve education for the children living in some of the poorest barrios of Granada. We are currently working with around 2,000 children. La Esperanza Granada volunteers together give around 1,000 hours weekly, working directly with young students.
• Building: The new technical high school in the barrio of San Ignacio, the six-classroom primary school at San Ignacio. We have also renovated more than a dozen classrooms, put new roofs on schools, built latrines, built fences around school yards, built ramps and steps to classrooms, built playground equipment, built storage rooms and created cooking areas.
• High School - High School Sponsorship: The sponsored students have all received uniforms, shoes, sports uniforms, backpacks, workbooks, pens, and other supplies. Now, we are trying to help them and motivate them to achieve good results in their studies.
• Ayudante Program: To qualify for this program, which pairs a university scholarship with long term volunteer work, young Nicaraguans must have completed their high school education and be prepared to give 6 hours of their time each day to helping in the schools.
• Health: Every week we take around 24 children to the dentists for check ups and dental work.
• Excursions: We believe that excursions and field trips bring immeasurable benefit to these children to give them important glimpses of the world outside their immediate neighborhood. Each year we hold regular excursions for children in grades two, four and six.

For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
