Qui sommes-nous
BORA – the association
The BORA women's shelter was opened in 1990 as a result of an evangelical-feminist initiative by women for women. In 1992, the non-profit organization BORA was founded, which has developed over the decades into a professional social work agency under the umbrella of the DWBO.
We address the issue of domestic violence from multiple perspectives and approach the problem through various disciplines.
BORA has the following goals in particular:
• to offer women and children who are or were at the mercy of violent situations a safe space and, if possible, to help them to exercise their rights,
• to support women and their children in developing new life perspectives,
• to remove taboos from the socio-political background that encourages violence against women and
• to combat all forms of violence against women.
To achieve these goals, BORA takes on the following tasks:
• Sponsorship of protection projects for women and (their) children, aftercare facilities, prevention projects and advisory services. In this context, women and children receive professional advice and support. They are supported and accompanied according to the principle of helping people to help themselves in overcoming the physical, psychological, social and economic consequences of violence.
• Public relations work against violence in the broadest sense,
• liaising with and collaborating with projects, organizations and groups that share the same cause,
• Dialogue with authorities and public institutions to enforce the rights of the women and children affected.
What we offer:
• Women's shelter: The BORA women's shelter offers protection and help to women who have to flee violence.
• Counselling for women: With our counselling service, we support women in developing a new, non-violent perspective on life.
• Housing assistance: Housing assistance is offered to women who have experienced or are experiencing domestic violence and need support in stabilizing their living situation after the separation or in the separation process.
• Help with education: Help with education is aimed at children and young people and their parents who have experienced family and domestic violence.
• PiKiTa – Prevention work in day-care centres: The PiKita prevention program is aimed at interested day-care centres in Berlin. Preschool children, educators and parents are included.
• We offer further training courses on the subject of domestic violence for specialists and volunteers.
For other net participants we can offer an expert guidance through trained staff, give an expert opinion, procure expert information and establish new contacts in the field of our work.
