Qui sommes-nous
The Future In Our Minds Rwanda (FIOM Rwanda) is a national non-governmental organization working in Rwanda since 1998. FIOM Rwanda was established with the aim of promoting the development of vulnerable community, especially youth and women, by empowering them to increase their economic productivity, through development projects and other profitable initiatives for self-financing purpose and contribute to the good governance through the civic education.
FIOM is legally recognised by the Republic of Rwanda since 2001 and officially registered in the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) as a national NGO according to the newly promulgated law No 04/2012 of 17/02/2012 governing the organization and the functioning of the national non-governmental organizations.
Our activities are based in the Eastern Province of Rwanda, with our Regional Office in Kayonza District, whereas our Headquarters are in Kigali city.

FIOM Rwanda envisages the world where vulnerable populations are able to prepare for their future with confidence.
Our Mission
To contribute to the promotion of the Rwandan community, especially youth, women and other class of vulnerable populations, to ensure their social wellbeing and hope for the future and hence their active participation in the development of the country.
Focus areas:
• Gender balance & Socio-economic development: We proceed by building their capacities with hands-on trainings, mentoring, training and then helping them establish groups, associations or cooperatives in order to make a strong voice as well as think, plan and implement their businesses together and open themselves to different partners.
• Health, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene: Using the community health workers, Youth peer educators, Anti-AIDS/drugs/violence clubs; in community and schools -we mobilize and educate people through door to door and public awareness campaigns, workshops, trainings events, meetings, etc., for public awareness and behavior change against bad practices such as youth drug use, reproductive health, family planning and other health challenging issues.
• Nutrition and Food Security: Through Capacity building of Community Health Groups (CHGs) and community Health Workers as well as nutrition information teams we provide: Health and nutrition education: lessons on Infant and Young child feeding, Breastfeeding and complementary feeding, maternal nutrition and micronutrients …; Promote the cultivation of high nutrition value crops through household gardens, small scale irrigation sites and communal farm and promoting food preparation demonstrations sessions, food processing, preservation and fortification techniques.
• Sustainable energy and environmental protection: Outreach campaigns with community based environmental associations in schools and community for protecting ecosystem and fighting against climate change effects. Hands-on training on fabrication of environmental friendly materials such as clay cook stoves and promotion of renewable energy (solar cookers, improved cookstoves).
• Good governance and Human Rights: Community sensitization on national & international human rights and youth civic education through radio programs, workshops and dialogues on human rights principles, gender based violence with special attention to people with disabilities; Community-based awareness for responsive governance; Research and advocacy on enforcement of laws and policies, procedures and rules for democracy & Human Rights.
Projects:
• Program for Responsive Beekeeping Value Chain in Eastern Zone of Rwanda: FIOM Rwanda is currently working with 16 beekeeping cooperatives in Kayonza, Gatsibo and Nyagatare Districts in the Eastern Province of Rwanda. Specifically, the project has the following objectives: Increase the production of bee‐products (honey and hive‐delivered products) in the eastern province. Establish collaborative mechanisms or Partnership Bridge among beekeeping value chain participants using approach of dialogue at national and local level
• Supporting communities to fight against HIV/AIDS: Working with The Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, FIOM Rwanda is carrying out activities in the district of Nygatare, (eastern Province of Rwanda), which equip communities with the knowledge to fight the spread of HIV/AIDs and also give those affected by the disease the skills and tools they need to increase their income generating ability. This work includes an information campaign in schools, public spaces and door‐to‐door, to raise awareness of HIV prevention measures, and the support of cooperatives through training and the supply of livestock.
• Promoting the use of environmentally friendly solar cookers: FIOM Rwanda is working to popularise the use of solar ovens in the Ngoma and Kirehe districts of eastern Rwanda. These ovens are built locally and offer an environmentally friendly means of cooking in a rural setting. This work also supports community‐based associations and co‐operatives formed of those affected by HIV/AIDS.
